Gardner McLean Stem Cell Transplant

I started this fundraiser on behalf of my uncle, Gardner McLean, who has been diagnosed with cancer. I asked my cousin, Taylor, to share what Gardner means to those around him and why we are asking for your help:
Recently, my dad, Gardner, has been diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer called MDS. Doctors have yet to find a cure, but multiple clinical trials are being performed.
In a few short weeks, he will be starting chemotherapy; and after this he will require a stem cell transplant. He may be participating in some clinical trials, but we’re still figuring this part out.
For those of you that know my dad, you know he is one of the most caring, goofy, and personable people. For those of you that don’t, he is an amazing father to myself, John, Jameson and Katie. He’s also a loving and caring husband to my unbelievably selfless mother, Donna. He can connect with people on another level, and they can talk for hours on end – quick 10 minute trips to the store turn into 2 hour trips.
My dad has worked extremely hard to provide for my siblings, my mom, and myself. He’s the last person to complain and also the last person to ask for help, but even someone as stubborn as himself has to give in sometimes.
Once my dad starts chemotherapy it will become extremely difficult for him to continue working. After his stem cell transplant, he will be in the hospital for over a month and he will be out of work and recovering for almost a year.
On top of our usual household bills, we will have hospital bills. I want to take some of the pressure off of my mom during this time, and I also do not want my dad worrying about bills while he’s trying to fight this cancer.
