Frank is my Red Eared Slider who has been my little joy for 23 years now. Frank loves music, hanging out with dogs, climbing anything she can, eating bananas and having her picture taken. She's been a wonderful companion to me and I need some help to continue giving her the care she needs.
This is the first time in 8 years Frank has been to the vet. She developed an abscess on her neck which cannot be treated without surgery. She'll need to be sedated in order for the infected tissue to be removed safely and thoroughly. Once that's done they require a Fungal culture to determine which course of antibiotics are necessary for treatment.
Unfortunately abscesses on reptiles are not as easily treatable as mammals and it's common for turtles to resist sedation so it's up in the air how long the surgery will take. She's currently staying overnight at the Animal Hospital to reduce the stress of travelling an hour and a half each way. The cost of this whole procedure, including the stay over night, and the course of antibiotics and possible further care will total up to $950.
