Help Gaby compete in Abu Dhabi

In October 2016, Gaby's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition earned her a place on the Worldskills Australia Skills Squad team among Australia’s best young skilled apprentices and trainees.

Gaby, along with 17 of Australia’s current National Champions from their particular trade or skill has now been succesfully selected to join the elite *2017 Skillaroos forming part of Team Australia that will go on to represent Australia at the world’s largest vocational skills competition – the WorldSkills International Competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

Gaby is working tirelessly every day to reach her goal of winning the Gold Medal while representing her country in Abu Dhabi. Often referred to as the Olympic Games for Skills and Trades, the WorldSkills International Competition will see the world’s best trade young men and women, from 76 nations, compete in 50 different categories for the title of World Champion.

To ensure Gaby has the best possible chance of winning a medal, she is now taking on an intensive training program and along with her mentors, category experts and a team of dedicated volunteers Gaby will train and develop her skills, her decision making abilities and build the resilience needed to compete against the world’s best.

With your help we can provide Gaby with the best possible opportunity to achieve her full potential, represent WorldSkills Australia at the International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October and come home with a medal.

ABOUT GABY:
Gaby is a sporty and slightly talkative young woman committed to success at WorldSkills and in her trade of hairdressing.

She knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a hairdresser and has stayed with this dream, continuing her education and skill development.

A previous competitor who worked with Gaby inspired her to enter WorldSkills.

“It was from watching her prepare herself for the competition and the work she was doing that amazed me.”

Through her WorldSkills experience, Gaby has become more confident and been able to build her clientele.

“The best part about my job is getting to make people feel good by making their hair look beautiful.”

Gaby attributes her success to her enthusiasm and willingness to put herself out there and have new experiences.

“It wasn’t easy, you’ve got to have a lot of patience and dedication, but when you look back at what you have achieved or done, you won’t regret it.”

*2017 Skillaroos are champions chosen to represent Australia on the world’s trade and skills stage, and help to secure the future of the skilled Australian workforce.

** Australia is currently ranked 12th in the world and in 2017 we aspire to break into the top 10.
