On the first of January 2017 at 2am my niece in Ecuador had a seizure in the washroom and was taken to the ER. Days later she was diagnosed with Brain Tumor
Gabriela is a 13-year-old girl, who from a very young age had a talent for drawing, despite her illness she continues with her studies, and is in grade 10 with good grades. Her dreams are to become a graphic designer or medical examiner. Like us she believes in God and the goodness of the human heart.
My sister, Gabriela's mom is a journalist by profession and she's a single mother, not working for a year, not because she doesn't want to but because there are no jobs. She lives with my parents; my dad is sick with pulmonary emphysema and my mom is diabetic. They survive with my other youngest sister’s salary and with the retirement money of my mom which is not alot.
Gabriela has a brain tumor, a hypothalamus on the right side, it contains several small nuclei with a variety of functions. It plays an important role in the nervous system as well as in the endocrine system. It is linked to another small and vital gland called the pituitary gland. It is an important part of the brain. Gabriela's injury is severe since it is deep, doctors say the cells are malignant and are multiplying rapidly and presses the nerves near the right eye. In order, not to operate and not open her head the treatment is a Radio Surgery with Gamma knife (this Radio Surgery only done in Miami and costs $19 725 alone for foreign patients, plus more fees which is all in american dollars) , as soon as possible, and we have been given as a deadline until May 2017.
Gabriela is currently taking 2 medications Valproic Acid 500mg this medicine must take it every 12 hours the bottle of 30 pills lasts 15 days and its value is $ 25 American, the other medication is Dexamethasone of 4mg every 72 hours.
Doing this treatment of Radiology Surgery Gabriela would be healthy and no longer take medication, only periodic check-ups would be performed.
That is why we have resorted to you to help us achieve this goal which is a struggle for Gabriela's Life and Dreams.
