Kaitlyn's Medical Trip to Ohio

VACTERL association is a disorder that affects many body systems. VACTERL stands for vertebral defects, anal atresia, cardiac defects, tracheo-esophageal fistula, renal anomalies, and limb abnormalities. People diagnosed with VACTERL association typically have at least three of these characteristic features. Kaitlyn has the anal atresia, renal anomalies, and limb abnormality. When she was a year old we spent 6 weeks in New York, having one of the best doctors, perform reconstructive surgery. At age 7 she had  major surgery to improve her quality of life. Kaitlyn has been approved through insurance to travel to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pena, her first surgeon is now the Chief of Medicine. He reviewed her case and approved her for treatment. A team of doctors will perform exploratory surgery and additional testing. This is to ensure that at age 12 she she is functioning correctly and give her any new enhancements. Kaitlyn was born with some challenges but the spirit of an angel and she endures each surgery and embraces being a little special. So, we are asking for help with our travel and lodging expenses.
