Hi, I'm G! I'm a 34 year old nonbinary/transmasculine person. I currently live in Colorado and work as an artist/illustrator.
I've had fairly serious issues with chest dysphoria my whole adult life, and my therapists have agreed that "top surgery" (mastectomy) would be ideal for me.
I came out as trans in 2011, but didn't think surgery was a possibility for me until the last couple of years. I had some issues finding a surgeon due to my weight. Weight loss is virtually impossible for me at this time, unfortunately.
However, I have now found a surgeon willing to perform the surgery on me, but they require 20% of the payment up front.
I don't have the exact cost yet, but was given an estimate of ~$13,500. I will probably be able to get some form of financing for the rest of the cost, but $2,700 (the 20%) is a lot to pay out of pocket!
I am hoping to have the surgery in spring, 2019.
There are plenty of trans folks in less stable situations who need more help funding surgeries, so I feel sort of guilty for asking, but your donations would really help me out with being able to make this happen as soon as possible! I've suffered from depression and dysphoria for so long, and the last couple of years have been really hard on me, as I was also diagnosed with a chronic pain/fatigue disorder. I'm hoping that by alleviating my chest dysphoria I can regain some confidence to improve my life, again!
Risks:
I have a genetic risk for DVT, so that will be an issue to watch out for during recovery. I won't be able to take any blood-thinning medications (I normally take aspirin for this) for possibly several weeks before surgery. I'm hopeful that my surgeon and GP can work out a plan for how to lower the risk!
