Disability Necessities

My name is Chandra Easterbrook, I am 18 years old. On Sunday, May 12, 2019 (Mother’s Day) I was in a severe car accident with my boyfriend on our way to his mothers for Mother’s Day dinner. As we were going through a green light, a man and his passenger ran a red light and struck the back end of our car, on the driver side. We had spun twice after the impact and ended up on the side walk across the intersection. My boyfriends air bags deployed but sadly mine did not. I was whipped around our car like a rag doll, in the little two seater Nissan 370Z. By the time the car had stopped I was screaming while having a panic attack from my ptsd. A man who saw the accident came rushing out when he saw I was hold onto my neck and back. The man held my head straight till fire fighters, paramedics and police arrived. When the did, a paramedic took over while a fire fighter sat next to me in the car to calm down. As this was happening, three other paramedics were get a stretcher ready, as well as a neck brace and Kendrick Extrication Device (K.E.D.) to get me out of the car.  When I was finally all braced up, it took 2 firefighters and 3 paramedics to get me out of the lowered, 2 seater car. I was rushed from the scene, in ambulance straight to Greater Niagara General Hospital (G.N.G.H). When we arrived the paramedic asked if I could feel him touching my feet, which I responded saying that I could not. He started to stick needles in my feet without my knowledge and continued to ask me if I could feel it again. I still couldn’t. At that moment I was told that I would be rushed to Hamilton General Hospital on a ‘Life over limb’ call. The only reason I was not taken in the helicopter was because I was conscious. When I arrived at Hamilton General I was rushed into a trauma unit  resuscitation room where I was assessed by 13 doctors at once and fentanyl pumped straight into my arm. After the finished that I was sent for a CT Scan as well as a MRI. Both came back back clear. As of right now I remain in the trauma unit where my brain is not sending signals to my feet and we don’t know why. We don’t know how long I will be stuck in hospital, or when I will go to Shavier hospital to rehabilitate, or even how long this may take. This is completely a waiting game now. My family and I have been having a really hard time processing all of this. I am only 18 years old, unable to walk, work or go home. I have an apartment as well as two kitties. I’ve made this account to raise money for a wheelchair, house accommodations, parking at the hospital, food, a P.S.W, and as well as anything as I may need for myself or for my mom to be here with me. Insurance can take up to 12 years before even seeing a dime from them, as well as disability doesn’t cover much. I could use all the help I could get right now. If you could donate that would mean the absolute world to me and I’d be forever grateful. And to those of you that do, I thank you you truly from the bottom of my heart.❤️
