Funeral For A 1978 Taft High Alumni

Friends, Family and 1978 Class of William Howard Taft High School Alumni. Our Classmate, Jeff Rutkin, passed away unexpectedly. He was found in his home on July 16th 2017, by his ex-wife, life partner and friend, Kelly Rutkin.
Some of his friends along with Kelly would like to have Jeff cremated so he may be sent off with some respect and dignity.
Unfortunately, due to some family dynamics there is no one in the immediate family to take on this accountability, in order to send him off accordingly.
Nothing elaborate, just getting his body released from the Orange County Coroners Office (requiring a $318.00 Fee) and then a Direct Cremation ($525.00-$575.00 depending on his weight). His ashes being returned for a future memorial date or possibly scattered at sea depending on what's desired.
If enough funds are not raised, he will be cremated by the county/state and his remains will be disbursed per their protocols which basically an unmarked grave along with multiples of others.
If the goal is not achieved the funds collected will be donated to a national and recognized charity (such as the ASPCA) in his memory. If the goal is reached over and above what is required, those excess funds will go to his small memorial and/or go to charity.
When the funds are collected they will be directly disbursed to the funeral director handling the picking up of his remains and his cremation. They will also disburse the appropriate funds required to the coroners office.
Fees to GoFundMe run approximately 8% so I have set the goal at $1,000.00. I think I have covered it all, funds required to get his body released and to get him cremated (again, depending on his weight) have been confirmed at between $843.00 and $893.00 plus the Go Fund Me Fees ($80.00 to $100.00).
Please help us in sending Jeff off with some Dignity and Respect. At a future date a Memorial Service may be announced, possibly held at a park or beach in his honor. Nothing elaborate, maybe just a BBQ or Pot Luck Get Together to share stories to remember him by.
