Aliette de Bodard  Paris, France

Rochita Loenen-Ruiz is a Filipina writer of fantasy and science fiction  who lives in the Netherlands.  Her stories have been published in Interzone, Clarkesworld, the Philippine Speculative Fiction series and other venues, and she writes a non-fiction column for Strange Horizons, among many, many other activities.

Her life is currently going through some upheavals, and she and her family could really use some help with their finances. ETA: since it's now public, we can say that she has just lost her husband and the father of her children

Rochita has always been very generous with her time and always seeking to help and support the community in whatever way she could, and we would love for the community to help her now--in whatever way you can afford, we know it's not always easy!

Anything above the target goal will be used to help Rochita--the need is serious and we would really like to help her as much as possible.

As a thank-you for your help, we've put together some rewards for donors:

All donors will gain access to our downloadables microsite, which currently contains: a Xuya sampler ebook by Aliette de Bodard; poems by Rose Lemberg, Shveta Thakrar, Lev Mirov , and E.P. Beaumont ; stories by Ursula Vernon , JY Yang , Tricia Sullivan , Elizabeth Bear , and Stephanie Burgis ; a downloadable coloring book by Melanie Ujimori  and Rhiannon Rasmussen-Silverstein ; and printable coloring sheets by Likhain. As the campaign proceeds we'll update this with more downloadables. Access to the microsite is sent to all donors via thank-you note. We've moved our contributor gifts list to the microsite, as well!

Update: We've hit our target -- thank you so much for your generosity, all! We know that Rochita could use every bit of help in this time of grief and upheaval, so we are keeping the campaign open for the next two weeks because we want to give her as much help as we possibly can. All of it is still so very very needed.

As a thank you to everyone for their support, and to help keep the momentum going and push forward to more help for Rochita, we've put together some stretch goals:

Dear friends and supporters,

We come to you after the end of the fundraiser with hearts full of gratitude and gladness; we are incredibly proud of you all, and at the same time humbled by your kindness, your care for our dear Rochita, your giving hearts. We close the fundraiser at 11,610 euro: we have reached every stretch goal we have set, raising over twice the original goal and giving Rochita and her sons enough help for a little breathing space. You are amazing and we continue to be staggered by all the help and kindness you have extended. Thank you so much.

As we wrap up our fundraiser, we'd like to request you to take a little time and enter your email address here: http://fundsforrochita.likhain.net/2015/10/28/donor-emails-submission-form/ -- it is so that we may have a way to get in touch with you for our post-fundraiser wrap-up in a convenient way (we've received some emails from donors noting they haven't been receiving our messages through GoFundMe). Please, and thank you!

Regarding updates on the downloadables microsite, we encourage you to check that out if you haven't already; there have been some incredibly delicious bits of fiction uploaded, including ebooks by Steven Gould and novel outtakes from Kari Sperring. We'll be uploading the last of the downloadables (coloring sheets, and a very, very special story from Rochita) soon!

We would also like to encourage you to read this post by Rochita, regarding the fundraiser: http://rcloenenruiz.com/2015/11/10/thanks/ . And we, the team behind this fundraiser, thank you, too, from the bottom of our hearts. You are all amazing. Maraming maraming salamat po.

Yours in gratitude and gladness,
Friends of Rochita

Dear friends and supporters,

We've hit the home stretch for the fundraiser, with around fourteen hours to go, and thanks to your generous support and kindness we have reached all our stretch goals but one. Let us try to reach it, if we can -- and so we'd appreciate very much if you could signal-boost and spread the word these last few hours! Whether we reach it or not, we would like to thank you so much for all your help. Rochita has reached out to us and has been posting on her blog more -- http://rcloenenruiz.com -- and the funds are helping a lot in this difficult time.

We've uploaded wonderful things to the microsite! A recording of Emma Newman reading Aliette de Bodard's story, a short story ebook created by Bogi Takács specially for the fundraiser, and a short story by Milena Benini. We have reached the 11,000 euro goal, so we also will be uploading ebooks by Steven Gould soon! The 11,500 euro stretch goal is an ebook of outtakes from Kari Sperring's THE GRASS KING'S CONCUBINE.

We will update more as we can, and as the fundraiser wraps up. Again, thank you so much for supporting Rochita. It means immensely much.

Dear friends and supporters,

First things first: we're almost at 10,500 euro! You are all amazing! Thank you so very much!

We (Aliette and Mia) have just emerged from a pretty hectic weekend, having both been at events -- so apologies for the slow replies, and thank you for your patience! We're getting back on track and have updated the rewards list, and we have also uploaded three short stories to the microsite as a thank-you to everyone for helping us reach our stretch goals. These are two stories by Tricia Sullivan and one by Elizabeth Bear, and they are all fantastic reads. As for the 10k stretch goal rewards, we're working on finishing them so we can upload them to the microsite, too, for you to enjoy!

We're only 20 euro (as I write this) from our next stretch goal of 10,500 euro -- which will unlock another beautiful story from Stephanie Burgis, a retelling of "East of the Sun, West of the Moon". So please, if you can, boost the signal and share the fundraiser widely.

Rochita has been writing more on her blog, at http://rcloenenruiz.com/ -- we encourage you to read her words, if you'd like. This is an incredibly difficult time, full of loss and grief, and please accept our thanks -- from all of us -- for the help you've extended to Rochita. These funds are so vitally needed and are such a huge help. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We also have an important announcement: we will be running this fundraiser until the 9th of November, which gives us about a week more to get together all the funds we can for Rochita. This last week, let's please do our utmost to continue supporting, boost the signal, and give all the help we can. We have awesome stretch goals to unlock, but more than that -- let us please help someone who's been a shining light for so many, who combines truth with compassion, wisdom with an extraordinary, giving heart.

Again, thank you so much, and if you need to contact us please feel free to email aliette@aliettedebodard.com and mia@likhain.net.

With much gratitude,
Friends of Rochita

Dear friends and supporters,

Following a bit of downtime (GoFundMe took the campaign down for reasons still unknown to us) we're back! Collective sigh of relief. Thank you so much for being so patient with us during the downtime. And please do help us spread the word as we know quite a few people were looking for the fundraiser (and not finding it!) during our downtime.

We have passed the 8,500 euro mark -- thank you to all of you, your kindness and generosity continues to hearten us. As thanks we have posted JY Yang's story on the microsite, as well as Ursula Vernon's story, so please go check that out if you haven't already! The password to access posts should be in the thank-you note emailed to you, but please let us know if you haven't received that yet. We have also added new stretch goals, up to 10k euro -- let us keep momentum going and supporting Rochita, please, every bit of these funds will be such a help to her in this difficult time.

We also would like to share some of Rochita's words; she hasn't been online much, as you can imagine it's an incredibly overwhelming time. But she had this to say: "All the messages of love and support have reached us. We may be late to respond, but please know our hearts are warmed and comforted by the chain of love reaching all across the world. Thank you."

From all of us here, thank you very much, and let's continue extending all the support we can to our dear Rochita.

Cheers,
Friends of Rochita
