Funds for My Son's Cancer Care

My 28-year-old son, Christian, was diagnosed this spring with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He had likely been suffering longer; however, due to our broken health care system, his diagnose came much later after his symptoms first appeared.
After collapsing at work one day, he went to urgent care, where they found a mass on his lungs, a temperature of 103 degrees and an elevated white blood cell count. They also noted the sores that developed on his legs due to severe itching. He was immediately transferred to a hospital where he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The sores on his legs lead to a MRSA infection as well. Due to the stage and his condition, he was immediately started on chemotherapy to save his life.
As you can imagine, the emotional and physical toll has been immense. It’s also led to a significant financial strain. He had only been at his job for two months, just missing the three-month mark where he would have been eligible for health care insurance. He’s filed for disability, as he is no longer able to work. While we have also filed for Medicaid, it takes 90 days for it to kick in. His care cannot wait though; his life depends on it. I’m doing all I can to pay for his medication out of pocket, but the need for financial assistance is immense.
It’s hard to share something so personal with so many and to ask for financial support. But as his mother, I will do anything for my baby. No amount is too small, and 100 percent of the money raised here will go to supporting my son’s health and our day-to-day needs until we get relief from Medicaid.
