NS4H - Fundraiser for Farms and Food Pantries
**UPDATE**
As we move into fall and winter, we are relaunching our CRiSP program to benefit local farmers at the Eastside Farmers' Market and interested city market vendors, with a special partnership with Pantry 279. Pantry 279 is one of the only pantries that offer Thanksgiving food baskets for families.
While many other charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army may request proof of citizenship or birth certificates for children to participate in gift exchanges, the pantry allows those who would otherwise slip through (survivors of domestic abuse who don’t have access to paperwork, undocumented immigrants, refugees, and more). It’s a truly international effort, as they have helped visitors from China establish their own pantries in their home country!
As it grows and expands, the pantry needs the support of the community as we go into Thanksgiving season. We are excited to work with them and the Eastside Farmers' Market and interested city market vendors to help get the community of Ellettsville and beyond fresh produce on Saturdays, which is a day of the week that they don’t normally get fresh produce. For the rest of the season we will be relaunching our crisp program to help connect farmers with pantries such as Pantry 279!

No Space for Hate's CRiSP program for local farmers and local food shelters.
The intent of this campaign is to leverage our community resources in order to sustain a Compensated Recovery for Surplus Produce program (CRiSP, for short) for vendors adversely affected by reduced market sales. The idea is, produce brought to the Farmers' Market will be purchased from farmers directly- and donated to local food pantries.
The program is mutually beneficial for both our local farmers and those in need in our community. No Space for Hate has started this fundraising effort to purchase produce from vendors affected in the aftermath of the two week market shut down. Your donations will go into purchasing vegetables, at market cost, from vendor allies in the cause, and will be sent to various food pantries, including but not restricted to the Community Kitchen Bloomington and Shalom Community Center Food Pantry.
Pantry 279
Pantry 279 was conceived, built, and ran by 10 Girl Scouts from troop 69-279 as their Silver Award Project. The girls, ranging between age 11 – 13 at the time, wanted to build a food pantry to help their friends at school who were only getting food while at school, due to family crisis.
With the help of their Leader, parents and a partnership with Trinity Lutheran Church, this was achieved and opened Nov. 2, 2015. We expected that after a year of operation, to be serving 30ish people a week. This happened on week 2. The pantry has grown faster than anyone has ever expected! We currently serve over 800 families a month, which equals over 2700 people a month, and we continue to grow,
The girls who started this are now teens and preparing for college, and although they do still volunteer and one sits on our board, the decision was made, due to our size, to open to the public and all youth groups for volunteers and help.
We now provide education about food need and food insecurity to any group who asks. We provide a place people, families, or groups ( especially youth ) can learn and do a wonderful, hands-on community service that really makes a difference. We provide community gardens for fresh produce. And mostly we provide very needed food once a week for families or individuals in need in Southern Indiana.
Community Kitchen
Community Kitchen of Monroe County's mission is to work, alone and in collaboration with others, to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas, through direct service, education and advocacy. Community Kitchen serves anyone in need.
Shalom Community Center
The mission of the Shalom Community Center is to aid and empower people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Shalom is the central hub for hunger and homelessness services in Bloomington, IN. We are an all-inclusive resource center, offering services including food, shelter, and other life essentials, housing, employment support, and more. We are one of the busiest social service agencies in town.
Organizing group -No Space for Hate Bloomington
No Space for Hate is a group of individuals working against white supremacy in Bloomington. It was formed when it was discovered that Schooner Creek Farm SCF were connected with Identity Evropa/American Identity Movement a white supremacist organization.
