Please help our father, husband, son, brother and friend. Chris was in a devastating snowboard accident with life-threatening injuries on Thursday March 8th. He was on a vacation with his mom, Linda, and sisters, Heidi and Tracie, while his wife Jana and his daugher Penelope and son Leo were back in Florida. He was snowboarding and launched off of some rollers on the mountain and landed on his head and neck. They tried to airlift him out, but conditions didn't clear and he had to be transported by ambulance to Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada.
As of now, Chris has 5 spinal fractures in his neck and upper torso, he is wearing a brace from neck to waist to stabilize his back. He also has a fractured sternum, bleeding in the spleen, kidneys and pancreas (all of which are being closely monitored). He is on a ventilator to help him breathe and a feeding tube for nourishment. He is in a medically induced sedation. There has also been a head injury, a suspected "sheering" of the brain and/or serious concussion which will be determined today when he is stable enough for an MRI.
As most of you know, Chris has a spunk and spirit that is beyond words.
If you have been around him for even 5 minutes you know what I'm talking about. His family is everything to him. And he is everything to his family. While they are trying to figure every next step as it hits them, I am asking for help for this sweet amazing family so that they can concentrate on the long road ahead.
The honest situation here is both Chris and Jana will be out of work for an undetermend amount of time. He is also in a hospital across the country from his wife and children, and Jana will be traveling back and forth from St Augustine to Chris in Reno for how ever long it takes to get him back home. There are the normal day to day bills, flights, living expenses, and so many more obstacles they will encounter over the months to come.
I ask that we come together as family, friends and community to do any and everything we can to help them. Their days are long right now and will be for a while. I ask that you join in helping relieve the financial struggles they'll face during this time so that they can focus on Chris. - Mandy
