Fund.Race.Fight. Multiple Sclerosis Fundraiser

Donation protected
It's been almost ten years since Joe's Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. If you have been following from the start of things, you'll know that in 2013, Joe's vision failed, and upon seeing several doctors to determine what was happening, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Since then, we've had many ups and downs - with symptoms, insurance, level of care, etc. His vision is restored to about 70%, but other symptoms have consistently been presenting themselves throughout the years. Joe has several lesions on his spine and brain which contribute to daily pain, numbness, and tingling in his neck and extremities. We know that things could "always be worse", so we are grateful for where he's at in spite of all that he endures daily.

Joe is currently a patient at UCONN. He moved on from the Mandell Center. He sees an MS specialist, and a spinal specialist frequently. He also attends physical therapy twice weekly for his neck and spine.

It's great knowing he is in good hands and is receiving the care he deserves. We know, though, that not everyone is so lucky.

Healthcare is expensive, and if you are sick, it may be impossible to maintain wellness or stay on prescribed medications. Not everyone lives so close to a state-of-the-art facility, such as the UCONN MS Center, and not everyone can afford the co-pays that are required to see a specialist.

The purpose of our Go Fund Me account is to raise funding for those that may not be as fortunate as us. By collecting contributions from people like you, we are able to give it to the National MS Society. There, the funding is distributed to programs that offer patient assistance and accommodations.

Up until now, we've raised almost $7,000 together! It's amazing and I'm so grateful to each of those that have kindly contributed.

You may remember that the bulk of my fundraising was done around times I trained for and completed various road races. Well, after being incapacitated from a botched leg surgery that led to several infections at the start of this year, I'm back on the proverbial horse and am training again.

On October 8, I'll be running my "comeback race" - the Hartford Marathon, and I'll be looking to you to help cheer me on! If 20 people can donate $26.20 before October 8, we'll exceed the initial goal of this fundraiser of $7,000. All money received will go directly to the MS Society to support programs and to ensure patients less fortunate than Joe can get the care and support they deserve.

So, please stay tuned as I finish my training and get closer to the finish line of the Hartford Marathon. With each milestone, I'll be bringing awareness to the terrible disease that is MS and will hope that we can reach my new monetary goal to help those that are suffering.
