Help Monic's Fight Against Cancer

My sister Monic, (pronounced Monique) was recently diagnosed as having Stage 3 Breast Cancer with presence in the local lymph node.  Since our family has no history of cancer, this was a devastating shock that has hit our family extremely hard.  Monic’s company-approved medical leave will be exhausted in May, at which time she will be responsible to pay a significant out of pocket expense for medical/dental insurance, not including her regular monthly financial obligations.  Monic is a single mother of 2 and works a fulltime job to provide for herself and youngest daughter Lexi, who is only 12 years old.

Due to the large size of the mass that was found, Monic must first undergo a mininum of five months of chemotherapy treatments in hopes of decreasing the size of the mass before surgery.  After surgery is performed, she will then begin a series of radiation treatments which will continue for several more months.  During this time, she will be unable to work and will only receive a small portion of her regular income, through long-term disability benefits.

Monic is one of the strongest, proudest and independent women I know, so please understand that asking for help is simply not in her nature.  My sister is, and always has been a fighter—confronting the ongoing daily challenges of Fibromyalgia and overcoming post-partum depression.  It was the most recent occurrence of sciatica related back pain, which led to the discovery of this horrible cancer.  Since her doctor combined the sciatica with the recently discovered cancer, causing her to be temporarily out of work, Monic had to use up all of the available time off that she had accrued.  Now she has no more sick or vacation time and has received no income since mid-March, and treatment hasn’t even started yet!

This funding effort will help Monic during her battle against cancer and help ease her mind about financial burdens, so she can focus on healing and beating this deadly disease.  All donations will be used to help cover the cost of medical expenses and insurance, rent, transportation and additional needs as they arise over the upcoming year.
