Funding for Muyonjo Senior School

Schön, dass du den Weg hierher gefunden hast. Ich bin Valentin Thoss, 20 Jahre alt, und arbeite im Rahmen des deutschen Weltwärts-Programmes für ein Jahr als Freiwilliger in Uganda in der Muyonjo Senior School. Dabei unterstütze ich die Schule auf vielfältige Weise. Dadurch erlebe ich jedoch auch hautnah, wie schlecht es um den Zustand der Schule und die Bildungschancen der Schülerinnen und Schüler steht. Gleichzeitig hat die Schulleitung ambitionierte Pläne, um Muyonjo zu einem besseren Ort der Bildung zu machen. Dabei ist die Schule auch auf Unterstützung durch Spenden angewiesen. Ich möchte den Schülerinnen und Schülern eine größere Zukunftsperspektive durch bessere Bildung geben und sammle daher hier über GoFundMe Spenden für mein Projekt.
Muyonjo Senior School ist eine Sekundarschule in Naluvule, Wakiso District in Uganda, geleitet von Julie Namugenyi. Derzeit besuchen 35 Schülerinnen und Schüler die Einrichtung in den Klassenstufen 8 bis 11. Wie die Mehrheit der Sekundarschulen in Uganda ist auch Muyonjo S.S. in privater Hand und finanziert sich durch Schulgebühren und Spenden. Die Gebühren für ein gesamtes Schuljahr liegen bei umgerechnet rund 80€. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler, welche in der Schule leben (außer in den Ferien), zahlen pro Jahr rund 160€. Im Vergleich zu anderen Sekundarschulen ist dies leicht unter dem Durchschnitt. 4 Schülerinnen und Schüler zahlen keine Schulgebühren. Die vergleichsweise niedrigen Gebühren sorgen dafür, dass insbesondere Kinder aus armen Familien und Waisenkinder sich die Bildung leisten können. Derzeit besuchen 3 Waisenkinder Muyonjo.
Vor einigen Jahren musste die Schule zwangsweise umziehen und die alten Räumlichkeiten verlassen. Dadurch hat sich die Qualität der Einrichtung und der allgemeine Zustand der Schule erheblich verschlechtert und in Folge dessen ist die Zahl der Schülerinnen und Schüler stark gesunken. Derzeit besteht der Schulkomplex aus 4 Gebäuden, von denen 2 unverputzt und ohne Fenster und Fußboden sind. Die anderen beiden Blöcke wurden im vergangenen Dezember teilweise verputzt und gemalert. Die Räume sind jeweils mit einer Tafel und einigen Sitzbänken ausgestattet. Weitere Unterrichtsmaterialien, wie beispielsweise Bücher sind kaum vorhanden. Auf den Fotos kannst du dir einen Einduck von der Schule machen.
Die derzeitige Planung für die Schule umfasst sowohl die Sanierung/Renovierung der Gebäude, als auch die Einrichtung von einem Labor für Physik, Chemie und Biologie. Darüber hinaus ist kurzfristig die Anschaffung einiger für den Unterricht dringend notwendiger Materialien geplant. Langfristig möchte die Schule auch einen Computerraum und eine kleine Bibliothek einrichten. Derzeit geht es jedoch zunächst um grundlegendere Sachen, da die Schülerinnen und Schüler keine Bücher besitzen, die Einrichtungen in einem katastrophalen Zustand sind und die Lehrer außer der Tafel und Kreide keine anderen Materialien zur Verfügung haben. Wenn du spendest, wird dein Geld für die im vorigen Absatz erwähnten Dinge verwendet. Es wird detailliert Buch darüber geführt, wofür welche Spenden verwendet worden sind, das heißt du kannst dir sicher sein, dass dein Geld zielgerichtet verwendet wird. Rund 2 Monate, nachdem die ersten Spenden an die Schule geflossen sind, wird es einen Bericht geben, der dich über die aktuellen Entwicklungen informiert. Um diesen zu erhalten, musst du beim Spenden deine E-Mail-Adresse angeben.

Hello and welcome on my GoFundMe-Page. I am Valentin Thoss, 20 years old and I am a german volunteer, working in Uganda for one year at 'Muyonjo Senior School'. With my work, I am supporting the school in various ways. At the moment, I am teaching two classes and in the free time I am singing with the students and doing sports and games. Trough my work, I am experiencing the very bad overall situation of the school and the very low educational level of the children. At the same time, the school's leaders have ambitious plans to develop 'Muyonjo Senior School' into a fully equipped Secondary School, that can offer its students a high level of education. To achieve this, the school relies on external donations and funding. I want to give the students of Muyonjo a hope for their future and better education and that's why I am fundraising here for my project.
Muyonjo Senior School is a Secondary School in Nalvule, Wakiso district in Uganda, led by Julie Namugenyi. Currently, 35 students visit the school in 8th to 11th grade. Like the majority of schools in Uganda, Muyonjo is a private school and is financed through school fees and donations. The fee for one year education is around 90$ per student and 180$ for those, who are in boarding school. In comparsion with other private schools, these fees are below average. 4 students are not able to pay the fees at the moment. With these lower than average fees, especially children from poor families and orphans are able to go to Muyonjo. Right now, there are 3 orphans at Muyonjo.
A few years ago, the school was forced to move from its old place, leaving the facilities behind. This led to a decline in the quality of the facilites and the overall condition of the school. It also caused many students to leave the school. Currently, the school consits of four buildings, two of which are not plastered or cemented and are without a proper floor and windows. The remaining two blocks have been partially plastered and painted in December. Each of the four classrooms is equipped with a blackboard and a few sitting desks. Further equipment like books is only sparsely available.

The current planning for the development of the school includes the renovation of the buildings as well as the contruction of a science laboratory. On short notice, we want to invest in highly needed and lacking school equipment. In the long term, the school also wants to set up a computer room and a small library. But for now, the donations will be used to get the desperately needed equipment, as the students don't posess any books, the facilites are in a bad condition and the teachers don't have any other material to use other than the blackboard. The long-term budget plan can be found below, including a list of the materials that will be purchased and a detailed budget plan for the construction of the laboratory.
If you are willing to donate any amount, the money will be used for the purposes described in the last parapgraph. There will be detailed accounting on the use of the donations, so you can be sure that your giving will be used properly. About 2 months, after the first donations have reached the project, there will be a report on the progress in the progress made possible due to the funding.
