This has been a tough year - very challenging, very hard.. somehow beautiful at the same time.

As some of you know, shortly after my last birthday at the beginning of 2018, I received devastating news: I was diagnosed with a large stomach tumor, that had already metastasized, I have been going through chemotherapy for most of the year, to which the cancer has responded well. But this was not the kind of news you want to receive for your birthday!
Since then, I’ve had the best medical care and advice from excellent doctors  but they are skeptical on my chances of being healed, at least with the tools they have at their disposal: At this point, they cannot operate to remove the tumors.

I always remain hopeful, though, and am absolutely determined to focus on my healing, and to seek out every option I can to beat this.

Right after the diagnosis, I decided to move from London, my home of the past 17 years,  back to the area I grew up in (Kirchzarten in the Black Forest, close to Freiburg). Here I am close to  my family, and am able to reconnect with the natural surroundings that I believe do me well physically and emotionally. My family has been unbelievable brave and supportive and our ties have strengthened beyond anything I could ever have imagined. It is a tough situation for them as well - and I am eternally grateful for how steadfast, how rock-solid and unwavering they have been.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

It’s hard to help with the illness itself, but there are many things that help me to feel good, supported, connected, loved or will simply put a smile on my face:

Send me a thought, a prayer, some energy, love, chant or sing for me, whatever expression it might take.

You can send me a postcard, letter, a painting your children did, something beautiful you found: (physical, tangible, REAL things are great, much better than electronic messages).

You can share a beautiful moment we experienced together, a memory, a picture.

You can hug me! Simply holding each other is more meaningful than saying a 1000 words.

You can send me a song.

If you are a vocal group - you can send me a bit of music, a musical shoutout.

If you are close, we can go for a hike together - being in nature is the safest way to instantly switch off and be in a good mood.

We can make music together or collaborate creatively, record stuff, jam …

In practical terms the current situation also means that I have basically no income. This year has used up all my savings and eaten a big hole in my family’s.

So if you feel, like it is an option for you to give money, there is a justgiving page for donations. This will help me to cover:

-  costs of the various treatments I am doing that are not covered by my health insurance

costs for essential living expenses including eating healthily, but also to have a decent quality of life.

Thank you all for your friendship, for your support and any help you can send this way. I love you all.

Tobias and I were classmates and friends during High School in Kirchzarten, located in a small valley called "Dreisamtal" in the beautiful southern Black Forest area nearby Freiburg in Germany. After our graduation from school we kept contact for a while, but our studies and later our jobs kept us so busy that we met only occasionally. 20 years after our graduation we met with a majority of our classmates and from then on had more frequently contact, e.g. I visited him in London where he had become a very successful musician. One year later Tobias told me that he had been diagnosed with metastatic cancer. As an oncologist I understood immediately how serious the situation was and was deeply hurt. Tobias tried to cheer me up and was extremely realistic and brave whenever we talked about his disease and the current treatment options.

I truly admire Tobias incredible inner strength and will power. Because Tobias could not work during his chemotherapy cycles he had to use up his saving from the times as a professional musician. As a friend of Tobias and as a physician having treated cancer patients since 2001 but haven´t seen any with such a strong volition and energy I support his crowd funding call from the bottom of my heart. The funding will allow him to continue his battle against cancer and not having to worry about daily life expenses.
