Bob Almond is an inker. I first saw his work in 1999 on Valiant's VH2 Bloodshot series. He really stood out as an exceptional inker. In the years that followed, he went on to other titles but I always kept loosely in touch with him.
Funny story. First time I met him in person was at a con in NYC. I arrived early, found him and said "Hey Bob- I'm Joe! Listen... I am going to search the room. Please take all your Bloodshot art and add it up and box it up for me. I want no discount." I came back 20 minutes later and paid him. Funny part is I remember paying around $20 per page and picked up a cover for $65... funny today because the value went up 1000%. I resold it years later.
He is an excellent fine line artist. Valiant's first inker was Steve Geiger but IMO his inks were too heavy... Bob has "such a circled wrist".
In the past week, I found out Bob has some medical issues... short-term memory loss and such. He is fighting with the insurance company for an MRI... well... to keep it modest, he can use some help.
Odds are many of you already have seen Bob at cons... he does them all year round. He also created The Inkwell Awards for veteran Joe Sinnott.
I am asking everyone here to donate $4.00... the cost of a comic book today. If we can get a bunch of people to donate four bucks, then he can get his life back in order.
Most artists are jerks. Really! And the better the artist, the more aloof they become. I have never met a more down-to-Earth artist than Bob. He has carried the torch of comic books for the past two decades.
So please guys... pass the bucket around. Thanks guys!
