Fund Raising for Remembering John Chen

Dear friends of John,


As you probably know by now, John Chen (Jiang Chen) was killed in a small airplane crash on Dec 20, 2018 on his way back to Memphis from a business trip. John was an outstanding servant leader in the Memphis Chinese community, a devote Christian who took pride and joy in helping others. For the past 15 years, he has devoted his life to the betterment of our community welfare, helping numerous people and was well-loved by everyone. His sudden and tragic death was a devastating loss to his family, the Memphis Chinese community, and the people who knew him both in the U.S. and China.  He left behind an elderly father, a wife and two young children (ages 10 and 11). John was the main provider for his family.

As a husband, father, and son, John loved his family. At this very difficult time, we pray for his wife and family to be strong, and we pray for his children and their future. We are so touched to witness an outpouring of love, emotional comfort and support from the local Chinese community, John’s church, and the Memphis community at large through food, gifts and holiday presents sent to his children. At the same time, we have come to realize that his family may need our long-term care and support. So we have set up a fundraising committee for John’s family. The committee members are: Shouli Yang, Jiada Mo, Huimin Hu, Xinhua Yu, Tao Liu and Guoqing Wei.    According to a report from the United States Department of Agriculture, for a middle-income family to raise a child born in 2015 through the age of 17, the cost of rearing a child has hit $233,610. Therefore, a GoFundMe account has been created to help raise John’s two children. We have set a goal of $200,000. We understand that it might not cover all the costs of raising his two children, but it will be enough to cover the main expenses.

We believe any amount big or small will be of great help to John’s family either now or in the future. John helped all of us while he was alive. Let’s all open our hearts to help his family in their greatest need. We appreciate and are extremely grateful for your love, kindness, and generosity. God bless you!

亲爱的朋友们，


          素风悲鸣，天地含哀。2018年12月20日对于孟菲斯的海外侨胞们以及陈江的亲朋好友来说是一个艰难而又悲痛的一天。可能您已经从新闻，华人社区了解到了陈江先生于2018年12月20日，在出差回程的途中，因乘坐的小型飞机坠毁而不幸遇难。


           这夜太冷又太长让人们无人入眠，在各大信息交流平台，不断的有人说，不明白，不理解，更不能接受，为什么这样的事情会发生在一位年轻有为，爱心满满，乐于助人的堪称孟菲斯华人领袖的青年才俊身上？！陈江是一位优秀的华人社区领袖，一位非常虔诚的基督徒，他非常乐于助人的人。凡是他身边的朋友，几乎所有人都得到过他各种方式的帮助。他投身于社区的共益事业15年，期间帮助过的人不计其数，有着许多的感人故事。他的突然离去对孟菲斯的华人社区，他的家庭，他的朋友都是一个巨大的打击和损失。如今斯人已逝，但是更让人悲痛的是陈江还有两个未成年的孩子，儿子11岁， 女儿10岁。他们现在没有了父亲。可怜孩子们问：“是不是以后就没有人带我们出去玩了？”父亲的离世对孩子们的打击和伤害是没有办法估量的。每每朋友们回来描述孩子们的安静与沉默，都让亲朋好友们不禁潸然泪下。


           陈江一生都在为华人社区和亲朋好友们服务，他为人勤恳，凡是亲力亲为。他对他的家人更是关爱有加，他孝顺老人，宠爱妻子，疼爱孩子。现在他的家人们仍然无法接受，并很难从悲痛中走出来。对于这个家庭来说这是一个艰难的时刻，很多华人自发的为他的夫人祈祷，祈祷她能走出悲痛。


            大孟菲斯华人联合会，AA4TN, 孟菲斯中文学校以及孟菲斯华人团体自发组织希望能为一直为华人服务的陈江的儿女祈祷，祈祷他们能健康并坚强的成长，今后实现陈江对他们的期待。在这艰难的时刻，我们已经看到社区，教会和各界朋友们在感情，食物和节日礼物上对他家人的支持和慰问，同时我们也意识到对于陈江家人的支持和关心将是一个长期的过程。根据美国农业部的报告，对于一个中等收入家庭来说，养育一个孩子在2015年到17岁时，抚养孩子的费用已经达到233,610美元。为此，大孟菲斯华人联合会，AA4TN,孟菲斯中文学校，以及华人各大团体自发组织并成立了一个为陈江空难资金筹集委员会。我们以此为目的开了一个GoFundMe资金筹集项目，帮助抚养陈江的两个孩子。我们设定了20万的目标，也许这并不能承担养育两个孩子的所有费用，但它应足以支付核心费用。更是华人以及各界朋友以表哀思的最好途径。


           我们相信任何的爱心都会对他家人的现在和将来有所帮助。我们也非常的感谢各界朋友在他们需要帮助的时候，你们给予他们的爱与支持。
