Fulfilling the wish of a cancer afflicted Travis

Donation protected

Travis Dumont is 17 years old as of the time this fundraising was started. Travis was originally diagnosed with "Osteogenic Sarcoma" in his right knee and femur, and inside his lungs in February 2016. Travis received 38 sessions of chemotherapy and six surgeries before doctors decided to remove his right femur and knee to be replaced with a metal replica of the bone and a metal hinge for the knee in the spring of 2016.

Travis and his mother (Neomie) lived at Easter Seals House in Vancouver for the 17 months it took for Travis to complete treatment. 15 months of daily chemotherapy, and rehabilitation was done because of the cancer and surgeries, with very few short breaks in between was done at BC Childrens Hospital. The following spring, doctors decided that a whole right leg amputation was necessary after treatment proved ineffective and in July 2017 they went through with removing his leg.

Travis was able to return home to Houston BC following his leg amputation. The cancer in Travis’ lungs remained when he returned home but showed little growth for 9 months. In July 2018 Travis discovered a lump in his neck, and upon further examinations doctors found the cancer was now in his spine and neck. The cancer has caused fractures in his spine, and also caused a spinal disc to collapse leaving Travis in an incredible amount of constant pain.

Travis went through radiation treatments for his neck and spine in September 2018 in order to prolong his life. Travis has been told by his doctors that he has about a year to live, but doctors will continue to work with Travis to provide life extending treatments via pharmaceutical therapies. On December 4th 2018 a scan on Travis’ chest revealed the tumor growth rate in the lungs has sped up significantly, and the tumor in the spine has shown growth leading into the spinal cord, This growth could lead to an eventual paralysis below the hips.

Travis was an active teenager before his cancer. He enjoyed BMX bike riding, sports, and being outside. Since his diagnosis Travis has not been able to do any of these activities. He now occupies his time being online on the computer. He is able to interact with local and international friends through online means allowing him to maintain a social life and a peer support group.

Travis dreams of traveling to New Jersey and New York City to meet a close online friend and experience what the place has to offer with them. Travis plans to visit landmarks throughout both of the states cities. He dreams of dining at New York’s fine restaurants, visiting Comic shops, attending the movies, and visiting other entertainment venues.

He also dreams to eventually have a powerful enough PC to play the games he wants to in an enjoyable manner with his friends.

Neomie is a single parent and on long term disability and is unable to provide these experiences for him.

The funds from this campaign will be used to cover the costs associated with Travis' visit to New Jersey and New York, and any funds that will unlikely be left over after the trip is completed and/or extra funds over the goal limit will be put towards buying the desktop PC
