Hey friends and family!
I want to create a media platform/production company for emerging forms of media such as Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality media that is not only accessible but also puts marginalized communities at the front of everything we do. To me this is really important because there are not enough companies like this that can also understand how capitalism is trash and if we put profit over the actual context, making a difference in the communities it seeks to help then ultimately it’s not really a company that is gonna make a difference in the world if it isn't accessible to the people it has declared to represent, promote, and give a voice to.
Media is so important in all aspects of culture and society; media can change perspectives, ideas, communities, people and by extension the world. The way a message is perceived, received, and understood changes by the form in which it is delivered to the masses. Because of this, it is crucial for people of marginalized communities to be able to tell their stories and share their experiences/perspectives unfiltered, raw, and independent of the hegemony of the white, cis, hetero, patriarchal, and class narrative. As someone that wants to create new forms of media these thoughts are center and front in my mind for why I am so passionate about my dream.
I need your support. I am studying Culture and Media Studies in order to help further my vision of creating a world of equity. As an indigenous trans-woman that has fought to be where I am right now I am fighting to create this platform. But, i need your support, I refuse to allow money to limit me in my goals and I know my community will support me.
Everyone so far has helped me fundraise a little over 1000 dollars. The goal is to reach 4000 since tuition is 2800 and the remaining 1200 dollar would go towards a much needed computer. As youcaring.com got acquired by gofundme.com I lost my campaign since all of the youcaring campaigns got deleted. I am starting a new gofundme campaign with 2900 as the new goal since you all helped raise 1100 already.
I’m finding it extremely financially hard to pay for this past semester. Because of this balance that still needs to be paid, I have not been able to sign up for any classes or register for this fall semester. Time is running out…School starts on Monday August 27th. I’m really scared, and have been battling depression and anxiety. I am diagnosed with PTSD from deportation proceedings and my family being deported as well as being homeless and the things that I have to put up with as a brown trans woman living in America. Its really hard for me to ask for help, but I must in order to be able to finish school. This is my final year and I can graduate with honors from The New School. Can you invest 10, 20, 50, 100 or more to helping me live out my vision and purpose in my community?
No matter the amount, what you would be contributing to would be in uplifting my life and getting it back on track after ICE, deportation, and homelessness derailed my life for so long.
