Hi! I'm Katie, a first year psychology student at Bangor University. I have just been accepted onto an SLV Mental Health Placement in Sri Lanka. SLV offers extra support to people who need it, with the aim of promoting positive mental health by improving confidence and teaching key life skills.
I am aiming to raise £2400 which will cover:
- the placement
- flights
- DBS
- visa
- travel
- food
- my homestay
- travel insurance
There is now only £305 left to raise!!

There are 5 projects that I will be running:
1. Activity Support - this involves helping individuals with recovery, including activities for specific issues such as helping to improve short term memory
2. English for Development - I will be teaching English in a school or training institute, this project helps provide better career prospects for individuals, improving their communication, decision-making and various other skills
3. Children Development - I will also provide extra-curricular English lessons for children
4. Special Education Activity Support - similar to Activity Support, this involves running a combination of physical and mental activities for those with specific needs
5. Community Outreach - this final project takes place in the local community and could be any kind of project, such as teaching more English or running an after school club for kids!
As well as these amazing projects, I will get to go on a field trip with a mental health professional and I will be able to attend workshops on mental health-related topics such as meditation, yoga and traditional healing.
