Dear Ft. Hunt Community,
As many of you know, a fine young man in our community, (and my QB!) De'Andre Doherty, suffered an unfortunate injury during our Ft. Hunt Federals 115 Central football game last week. He had a severe foot fracture that required surgery, and although he will be fine in a few months, he faces a long road to recovery.
De'Andre's family is on a very fixed income. Many of you may know his mother, Lakahn, who works in the Ft. Hunt Elementary cafeteria. Unfortunately, she has had to miss almost 2 weeks of work, and since she is an hourly employee, will not be paid for the time she misses. I spoke with her last night and she indicated that she does not know where she will get the money to pay for rent, utilities, transporation, groceries, etc. until she can return to her job. In addition, they do not own a car, and will have subastantial unforseen transportation expesnses to and from medical appointments and physical therapy. They also do not have extra resources for out of pocket medical expenses and prescriptions.
I spoke with D'Andre's mother last night and she gave me permission to reach out to the community to seek donatations to help them through this difficult time. De'Andre is a bright young man with a great future, and his mother is a hard working member of our community and they deserve our support. Please donate what you can to help out - any amount helps!
