Jonas Medical & Living Expenses

While cycling on September 20, Steve and a friend locked handle bars. He hit the ground hard—sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI), internal bleeding in his hip (which required surgery), 9 broken ribs, a punctured and bruised lung, broken clavicle and broken scapula. After a week in ICU and brief stay on the surgical floor, Steve recently moved to a rehabilitation facility to continue his treatment.

Each day, Steve is making tremendous strides (miraculous, really!), but the truth is that his road to recovery will be more of a marathon than a sprint. Despite his eagerness to get out of rehab and back to work, this process will take determination, patience and TIME. For now, his job is getting well.

Since a lot of you have asked what you can do, here is the reality that you can help with: Both Steve and Sue are self-employed. Imagine. Every day that he doesn't get back to his IT work is a day with no income. When Sue is able to be by his side, helping with medical issues, encouraging his rehab, she isn't able to serve her clients. While they have health insurance, the extraneous costs of the accident are —and will continue—adding up for a while. They need our help.

For the time being, Steve's healing continues to require extended, unstimulated time. (Sorry gentlemen, the quarterly guys nights are postponed until further notice). He has a friendly and welcoming way that has served so many of us so well over the years so this is tough practice. He wants to get back to work and to volunteering with Family Time Ministries (www.famtime.org). The ministry itself speaks to Steve's heart—it emphasizes devoting intentional time to family relationships. Our hope is that you will extend the heart of your family to the Jonases, now.

With all freedom, we are asking you to please pray about being part of a group that could help relieve the financial burden that is building for them each day. The goal is to help take a bite out of their bills to ease the sting of lost income.

So many of you have already done so many practical things to help. Still more are wondering how you can reach out. Well, here you go. Please spread the word. And please, PLEASE keep praying for God's grace and peace for all of them during this season of healing.
