The famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race, known as The Last Great Race, is an epic race of 1000 miles, where mushers cross some of the most extreme terrain and arctic conditions known to man.

From Anchorage to Willow on through the Alaska Mountain Range and across the vast interior, mushers then travel north along the coast of the Bering Sea, crossing the sea ice of Norton Sound, over Little McKinley and the Topkok Hills and finally on to Nome.

The top competitors complete the race in 8-9 days however, mushers who complete the distance in 12-14 days are considered to have performed a fantastic physical endeavor.

My husband David Bogart giving me a high 5 !

I am qualified to enter Iditarod 2016. My 2015 Iditarod run was cut short for several reasons. This is what happened; I was 300 miles into the 1000 mile race when a lack of planning cut my trip short. I was 25 miles into a 120 mile leg of the race. The temperatures dropped to -50 below zero which changed the game plan completely.

I had planned to run 60 miles, stop to feed the team and rest. Best laid plans. We did not make it the 60 miles. We made it 25 miles and my team shut down. I decided to give them a meal rest them for a little bit and continue on. It was then I realized that I had not packed enough food for extreme cold conditions. I had no choice but to reverse course, return back to the previous checkpoint and scratch.
