Redwood City AYSO U12 Travel Fund

$12,829 of $15k goal

Raised by 63 people in 15 months
My name is Jeff Nolan and my son plays AYSO, as he does every year. This season he was assigned a team and had the typical excitement about playing another year of soccer. I met Coach Miguel at the first practice and stayed to watch the boys get know each other. It was apparent at this first practice that this team was gifted.

27 undefeated games later the team beat Winters in the AYSO Section 2 championship tournament. Following a break over the holiday they will be representing Section 2 in the AYSO Western State Championship in Bullhead City, Arizona on March 19-20, 2016.

We are asking for contributions to our travel fund to cover transportation, lodging and food for each player and one parent. Unlike club teams that regularly travel and have a support structure and funding to do it, AYSO teams are community-based teams for players of all abilities. Catering to working families, AYSO provides competitive soccer experience regardless of financial ability.

The funding necessary for 11 players with a parent/guardian for travel, lodging, and food is significant. We need help!

These boys have worked hard, enjoy playing together, and have displayed consistent and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season, while going undefeated in their league, and then through the tournaments leading up to the championship. They want to keep playing together and are excited beyond words at the thought of traveling to Arizona to play the best AYSO teams in the western United States.

We are seeking $25,000 of total funding by March 19th to take the team to the western state championship. We will track our actual expenses, economizing where we can. If we raise more money than we actually spend, we will donate the balance to the Redwood City Police Activities League (P.A.L.) to help other young people in our community fulfill their potential.

Thank you from all the boys and families of the Redwood City U12 team, Frog Sports!

Wow, way to go! We're 2/3 of the way to our goal and I am happy to report that the boys were out canvassing local businesses over the weekend. Keep up the good work, we're on our way to being able to fully fund the team for the Western States Tournament!

Great news! AYSO provided us with a form letter that can be used to deduct your donation on your taxes. This form letter will work for donations less than $250. For donations over $250, AYSO will provide you with a letter that meets IRS requirements. I will contact individual donors above the $250 threshold with additional details.

The form letter can be found on this shared drive. Just print the PDF and save for your records with your donation amount.

A quick update on an administrative issue. GoFundMe is a little wonky when it comes to raising money for a cause like this. I setup this campaign as "raising money for someone else," however now it is not possible to complete the verification process for the withdrawal process and the campaign will stop accepting donations on the 17th if I do not complete this step. I need to change the campaign to "raising money for myself" in order to get access to the funds in order to pay for the travel expenses.

The team does not have a bank account and a group of 10 and 11-year-old boys do not have the wherewithal to accept funds that I distribute to them via the gofundme system.

The funds raised in this campaign will be used to pay for the consolidated expenses of the group travel, accommodations, local transportation, and food. We are consolidating the expenses through a single credit card and use the contributed funds for pay this balance, providing a detailed accounting to each team member's family and anyone else who would like to see the detail. Any funds over and above our actual expenses will be donated to the Redwood City Police Activity League to support activities for young people in the community.

We have made great progress on this fundraising effort and the boys themselves have been involved at each step of the way. Posting flyers, talking up the campaign and soliciting local businesses for donations. We appreciate the outpouring of support and are now over 33% of the way to our goal with another month to go.

We crossed $5k in donations for the boys trip to the western states AYSO championship tournament. Lisa scored some really good deals and we have been able to lower our goal to $15k!

A big thank you to Virgin America for the deal on airfare, and to another local business, DaVinci Marble, for their generous donation.
