Friends of Indigo Memorial

Sixteen-year-old Indigo took her own life. She struggled with anxiety and depression. She also fought fiercely against the anti-Native prejudice and queerphobia that was all around her. We want to keep up that fight for her and give a gift to "all our beautiful hummingbird-hearted kin."

We are starting this fundraiser because people are asking and wanting to give. Our library district was a haven for Indigo; a place for books and belonging. This was because our librarian Miss Ann welcomed her at the reference desk and at teen programs and guided her to books that enriched her and reflected her dreams and desires.

We will use the funds we raise to support the following:

1. “For a Celebration or In Memory donations you may suggest materials on a specific subject or ask the Library District to make a selection for you. Each item will contain a gift plate with your name as donor and the name of the person honored.” The donor name will be Friends of Indigo, and @OfGlades and Miss Ann will suggest materials. We will focus on Native and LGBTQIAP+ titles, mainly for young readers.

2. “The Friends of the Library Scholarship Fund pays half of the tuition of Library Personnel who apply for successfully completed higher education coursework. A number of Library Staff have completed their Master of Library Science degrees through this program.” This will directly benefit marginalized library employees, including @OfGlades members.

We never dreamed that we would lose indigo so soon. She couldn’t imagine how many lives she touched and will continue to touch. Help us create a enduring memorial for our beloved friend as she journeys to our ancestors. Sho-na-bish!
