Brendan (Benji) O’Callaghan passed away on 11th July 2018 after a brave 7 month battle with cancer. Brendan was a courageous fighter all of his life. Born on the 15th January 1974 with congenital heart problems, he underwent numerous operations and procedures over all his years. He often defied medical prognosis and was hailed as the professional patient. Brendan as you all know handled his final terminal diagnosis with courage, dignity, humility and resolve. He never gave up on hope for his own life and the lives of others and embraced life right till the end. His final days were spent in the supportive care of the palliative team of the Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. In his memory we “The Friends and Family of Benji O’Callaghan” are organising a fundraising night on Saturday 13th July 2019 at Dowdallshill GFC, Dundalk to honour the memory of Brendan.

The specific fundraising objective is to provide four specialist chairs for use by the community palliative care patients and their families. Louth's only palliative care beds, of which there are five, are located in The Louth Hospital, Dundalk. Any funds raised above the target will be used for a 'family room' used by families of the palliative care patients being cared for in the Lourdes hospital.
