The Fresh Life Foundation (FLF) is an emerging non profit organizations preparing to launch exciting work toward uplifting the health, well-being and economic advancement of the West Oakland community. We stand in solidarity and partnership with People's Community Market (PCM), a community-based project bringing a mission driven food market, cafe and social hall in West Oakland. FLF is raising funds to undertake a strategic planning process to develop a vision and plan for our work, as well as for organizational infrastructure and a part-time staff person.
We will develop and operate programs and activities including the following:
• COMMUNITY OUTREACH - Outreach to and engage with residents to increase community support of and involvement in the vision and creation of PCM,
• COMMUNITY GUIDANCE - Provide coordination, direction and support to PCM’s Community Advisory Council,
• EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - Deliver educational programs in the store and the community at large on topics such as food, farming, nutrition and health,
• INCENTIVE PROGRAMS - Coordinate promotional and incentive programs for residents to increase their consumption of healthier foods,
• TRAINING PROGRAMS - Offer training programs in the store and the community at large on topics such as financial literacy, life skills, and conflict resolution,
• HEALTH SERVICES - Organize and offer health services in the store such as health screenings and dietary counseling,
• COMMUNITY EVENTS - Organize programs and events in the store that support greater community building and social cohesion among diverse residents,
• NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT - Develop broader neighborhood improvement projects and public safety programs,
• WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT - Provide outreach, support and training to the economic advancement of PCM’s employees,
• COMMUNITY INVESTMENT - Support local residents to make investments in West Oakland, including in PCM.
Help us as we begin to develop our vision, commitment and capacity to serve community. Funds will support the development of a three-year strategic plan. This will include hiring a consultant to facilitate the strategic planning process and co-produce the plan. Funds are also being raised to build basic organizational infrastructure and to hire inaugural staff responsible for implementing our plan and initiating our activities.
Our draft budget for this initial funding is as follows:
• Strategic Planning Consultant $15,000
• Part-time Coodinator, 10 hrs/week $15,000
• Grant Writing Consultant $10,000
• Insurances and Licenses $3,000
• Administrative & Accounting Systems $2,000
• Communications systems $1,500
• Office Expenses $1,000
• Payroll Expense $600
• Utilities $600
• Miscellaneous $1,300
TOTAL: $50,000
We would like to raise the resources needed by February 1, 2017.
We are excited that community members are ready to invest in Fresh Life Foundation as we inspire a grassroots effort to revitalize West Oakland.
