FWD / Volunteering in Bilbao

***English text down below ***

eure Ella

Hey everybody!

I finally made it and graduated this summer or as we like to call it in Germany “I have done my Abitur”. Now that this chapter has ended, the question is what is going to come next? And I actually already do have a plan for the coming year. I am going to volunteer at a German kindergarten in the city Bilbao in the North of Spain for 10 months as part of a so/called International  Volunteer Year Abroad. The organization that I am doing this project with is called “Internationaler Bund”. I will be working in a group with pre-school children. I am really looking forward to working with kids and I hope that maybe the time abroad may help me figure out what I would like to study.

One of my tasks is to organize a circle of supporters to help finance the costs of the project. I am expected to raise 2,800 EUR to cover various expenses connected with the undertaking. This may seem like a lot at first but this money includes:  A monthly allowance that I get from the organization, an insurance for abroad as well as 25 days of seminar and a mentor that I can turn to in Bilbao.

It is very important to me to learn Spanish during my time away. Even though it will be challenging because I will be speaking German at the kindergarten, I will take Spanish lessons while I am there and I am determined to really learn the language. I am already studying now before I leave.

I am very excited for my time in Bilbao and am looking forward to getting to know the Spanish and the Basque culture! I am happy to be able to participate in the intercultural exchange among young people in Europe.

I am not only making an effort to learn Spanish before leaving Germany but I also have done an internship at my old kindergarten to prepare for the work that I will be doing in Bilbao.

If you would like to support this project it would mean a lot to me and I will be grateful for any help you can give me!!!

Every little contribution will help me with this project. I will start working in the beginning of September and that is also the time I am supposed to give the money to the organization. So it would be great if donations would go in before the beginning of September.

Thank you so much!!

If you want to follow my adventures in Bilbao; I will write a monthly mail and share pictures and experiences. If you want to receive these emails let me know.

Best wishes,
Ella
