Ganfouda, a south suburb in Benghazi, Libya, has been under siege by General Khalifa Haftar's "Operation Dignity." The UN-backed Government and Human Rights Organizations have documented from 126 to 133 civilian families who are currently being held captive in Ganfouda. The continuous attacks from sea, land and air by General Haftar and his militias have resulted in demolished homes and over 30 deaths and counting - a situation that amounts to genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The families have not been able to leave as safe passage has been denied by Haftar's forces and the Government of National Accord has been unsuccessful in evacuating the families and the United Nations Special Mission to Libya (UNSMIL) has remained silent as these crimes against humanity continue .
As you consider making a donation lives are being lost due to medical conditions, hunger and air strikes. The families are not requesting to leave Libya as refugees, but simply to be evacuated to the capital Tripoli by sea for the safety of their children. These families have been deprived of rights that must never be denied to any human being, like the basic right of safety, clean water, food, and medication.
My own mother, five siblings, sister-in-law and six young nieces are among the families trapped in the neighbourhood of Ganfouda, which is besieged by Libyan army troops.
As Canadian Libyan seeing my family and the family of so many others suffer is devestating. That's why with your contribution we will be abel to help these families with aid, relife, food water, and hopefully be able to evacuate them. Your help will go a long way. We need to rescue and free the families trapped in Ganfouda.
Money collected will be donated to the International Red Cross and Red Cresent to help the families of Ganfouda.
Evidence has been documented of war crimes against civilians in Ganfouda. This matter is extremely time sensitive. Your support is greatly appreciated to save all the trapped civilians in Ganfouda.
We call the United Nations Security Council to act NOW! and to intervene. We call on the UNSMIL to speak out and facilitate a ceasefire and the immediate evacuation of the families to Tripoli.
