Frazer Clothing and Food Pantry

My name is Jen Medina and I am a 3rd grade teacher at Frazer School in the City of Syracuse. My school is home to students in grades PreK to 8 from very diverse backgrounds. We have 30 languages spoken and many students are refugees. Our students are awesome - and many of them face daily struggles. They inspired me to begin a Free Cothing Closet and Food Pantry for Frazer School.
Free Clothing Closet:
This will be for all of our students to have convenient access to free clothing all year long. Students will get their first opportunity to use the Clothing Closet at our Back to School Open House in August where they can pick out whatever they need for the upcoming year. The goal is that no student at Frazer will be cold in the winter or not have enough clothes that fit well. Being comfortable and confident is a huge contributor to learning. Families can get the clothing as needed through the year with no questions asked. It will be open to all. The idea of having this at the school-where the students who need it are, makes it so much more accessible for our families who might not have transportation to other outreach centers. We will be able to bring these things directly to those who need it.
Food Pantry :
Students at Frazer receive breakfast, lunch and snack daily on school days. Long vacations from school can impact our students nutritionally. There are some families who struggle to have enough food over these vacations. Through donations only, we will work to provide backpacks of food to families who need it over vacations. I am hoping to be in a position that we can extend this to some weekends as well through the year. No child should ever be hungry and my goal is to be sure that no child at Frazer will.
I am seeking donations to help meet these goals.
Donations will go to:
- Supplies to run Clothing Closet (bins, hangers, racks)
-Purchase of clothes that we have a need for but can't get through donations (special sizes/ shoes)
-New underwear and socks as that is better new
-Food items to be sent home over vacations (snacks and easy prep meals etc)
- Food backpacks for transport
-Storage for food items to keep fresh and secure.
This project means so much to me. I know how great these students and families are. I know that some are really struggling. This will have a great impact on those who need it. Please consider donating. I'll post updates as we roll out the Clothing Closet and Food pantry. Thank you so much!!
