Gregg Katz   KATONAH, NY
The Frank Katz Memorial Fund was set up in honor of our father, who passed away suddenly on Monday morning, November 11, 2013 at age 60. He collapsed just two miles from our home in Somers, NY, while walking to the Golden's Bridge railroad station, due to an unknown medical condition. We were all shocked and heartbroken by his death. Frank Katz was a loving husband and father of twelve. He will be forever missed by his wife Carol, his nine sons, and his three daughters.
Our dad was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Bayside, Queens. Our family lived on Long Island for many years, and it is there that our dad was laid to rest at Wellwood Cemetery in Farmingdale. In 2011, we moved to Newtown, CT. Our father helped our family get through the difficult tragedy that we faced along with the community there last year. We moved to Somers several months ago.
Our dad was a dedicated pension actuary for 33 years. He worked in the World Trade Center, but was lucky not to have been there when the towers fell on September 11. He had stayed home that morning to watch his young children so that our mom (who was, at the time, the PTA vice president at the elementary school) could attend a PTA meeting. We always said that his love of his family saved his life that day.
Frank Katz lived for his family. He was smart, kind, and strong-willed. He loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and listen to classic rock. He was a big Mets fan.
Besides the emotional tragedy that we are all facing, our father's passing has left us in financial distress as well. We are facing eviction from our home and do not know where we are going to end up. We do not want to ask for help, but we truly have no choice. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Update 2

We just wanted to share with you all that the money donated will be going toward finding a new place for us to live and, hopefully, a 15-passenger van to fit our large family. Thank you so much to those who have already helped us, and thank you in advance to those who will do so in the coming days and weeks.

We want to thank all of those people who have generously donated to our fund. The continued supported from our family, friends, and neighbors, and from kind strangers across Westchester and Putnam Counties and beyond has been truly amazing and is greatly appreciated. Any additional support we receive will be so helpful and we will be so very thankful for it.
