Twenty two years ago, Fran Bushell received a devastating diagnosis of cervical cancer at the young age of 36.  She fought long and hard through intense chemotherapy and radiation and was finally declared to be in remission.  This cancer-free time lasted almost 20 years until she was dealt an even more devastating blow almost 3 years ago.  Stage 4 pancreatic cancer!  Even though the prognosis for this type and stage of cancer is dismal, Fran and her husband Paul dealt with it head on with the humor and positive outlook they always have when things get tough. Fran underwent countless bouts of chemotherapy fighting this deadly disease, all while dealing with the lasting effectives of the treatment from her first battle with cancer.  Demonstrating her unparalleled strength, Fran endured multiple visits to the hospital due to complications, the most recent resulting in intestinal surgery. This invasive surgery confirmed the fear that the cancer has spread.
Aunt Fran, as she is known to not only her nieces and nephews, but to many others she would call family, is an amazing, fun, and selfless person. Before her diagnosis, Fran worked in the cafeteria at John Jay High School and impacted the students at the school so much that they actually dedicated the yearbook to her not once but twice!  Fran leaves a lasting impression with every person who is lucky enough to meet her.  Her family and friends feel blessed and grateful for every day we experience the love, humor, and loyalty of Fran Bushell.  She has a feisty and strong spirit and loves with her whole heart. Our hearts are breaking as we learn that there is nothing more the doctors can do for her; her broken body can not handle any more treatments.  During this lengthy battle, her dedicated husband Paul has been by her side every step of the way.  Unfortunately when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March, Paul was released from his employment and does not have the income or medical coverage to pay for the hospitalization and care that is required. To see Fran and Paul struggle is unbearable to witness.
Fran and Paul are two of the most generous and loving people who would do anything for others. They are always the first ones to step up to help those in need. Now, they are the ones who are in need of help.
If you can, please help Fran and Paul during this difficult and sad time. Any support goes a long way to help relieve the financial burden this cancer and pandemic has caused. Thank you.
