Nobody should face a loss of their income and status just because they speak out about something that’s wrong. I’m a Chartered Electrical Engineer, and for the past eight years I’ve spent my free time informing the public about fracking – blowing the whistle on health and environmental concerns.
And now for the second time in three years, I am facing a full scale investigation and threat of disciplinary action from my professional body, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). Pro-fracking individuals have complained that I am bringing the Institute and "science" into disrepute. They have filed complaints on 63 different points. The IET has appointed a barrister as an "independent investigator" to examine the case against me. Should it go to "trial" at a Disciplinary Board then the result can be my effective silencing.
The first time this happened I spent thousands on legal fees and it cost tens of thousands in lost income. I was completely exonerated, but as this was not a court of law, I was not awarded costs. My family and I cannot afford to spend this much money a second time. My lawyers have asked me to lodge monies with them to execute the work on the 63 points for me and argue the case with the IET's investigator.
So I am asking for your help. Anything you can donate will help me to pay for solicitors to defend me against this "complaint", and will enable me to stay vocal in the fracking debate. By donating to my legal costs and my expenses, you will be contributing to whistle-blowers everywhere who believe the public’s health and the safety of the environment is being put at risk.
