Treatment Help With Foster Dog Thor

Thor's Got 99 Problems But a Foster Mom Ain't One

For those of you that don’t know me, I foster dogs – particularly rescue pups from Arkansas, where there is a serious overpopulation of strays and their “accidental litters.” My most recent foster, Thor, on the other hand, is a bit of a different story. While he is originally from this same Arkansas rescue I foster for – in fact, he is the sibling to one of my own dogs, Nukka – he had been adopted from the time he was a pup. Unfortunately, due to his former owner’s health issues, in addition to his own, she had to recently give him up because it has become too hard to care for him. And because he’s my own dog’s sister, I didn’t want to see him go to the local shelter (especially since he has health problems that require treatment).

So in short, Thor came to be with some problems and he’s going to continue to need treatment for, well, probably ever. I’m determined to get him into the best shape that I can. At the time of writing this campaign, I’ve had him for 3 full days, he’s had two vet visits, and it has cost me a little over $1,000. This includes getting him updated on all his shots and vaccinations as well as heartworm and flea/tick meds, in addition to tests (thyroid and allergy) to try to get at the root of his skin issues, so I can treat him as best as I can here on out.

So, I hate to do this, but what I’m asking for is some help with offsetting these initial costs. I promise that once I get his regular treatment figured out, I won’t continue to ask for help because I chose to be his foster and this is the responsibility I accepted – and I’m happy to do it, because, I love dogs. Especially ones that need help.  Chances are, this will be a long-term foster, but I'm going to get him to some level of normalcy because he really is the sweetest boy and he deserves it.

Here’s a little background on Thor that will make you love him as much as I do:

·         He’s my dog’s – Nukka’s – littermate!

·         He likes eating…a lot. He’s 98 pounds! (His weight is something I’ll be working to get in a healthy range).

·         He has big brown eyes that look very sad, but he actually has a very big happy smile…usually when you indicate that he’s about to eat.

·         He can be very shy, which is super endearing, actually. In fact, he’s scared of my 9-pound chihuahua/terrier mutt.

·         He itches himself constantly and tries to get you to itch his irritated spots on his belly for him…because he’s sneaky.

·         He snores, but doesn't bark.

·         He hates to get in the car, but once he's in, he's actually as cool as a cucumber.
