For The Philippines

$485 of $1.0M goal

Help victims of the recent July 9, 2019 5.6 earthquake in Mindanao with food, housing, supplies, and medical care.

Mindanao, the southernmost island, is one of the poorest areas of the Philippines. Many residents live in sub-standard housing without plumbing and running water, bathrooms, or kitchen facilities. Dwellings are not earthquake ready or resistant. Your donation will help them recover from recent damage to housing and other facilities and with any supplies or medical care needed. The kids (above in the photo) live in the rural area in the Davao Del Sur region of Mindanao.

Manila, a city of 12 million, has the worst traffic in the world and more people per mile than any other city in the world, including Manhattan. It is home to 4 million in the slums alone. The average per capita income of a Filipino is about $3500 American (versus about $55,000 in the US).  According to the latest CIA data, 25% - 1 out of 4 - of Filipinos live under the poverty level (compared to 15% in the US). According to Stratfor, outside of Manila's 4+ affluent districts, 98% of the nation lives close to the poverty level, driving about 10 million Filipinos to other nations and into a lonely life of labor and service supporting their families. Perhaps the potential influence of this 'scattering' effect is why prophetic minister Sadhu Selvaraj describes the Philippines as having the highest destiny among all nations, except for Israel.

The ‘retirement plan’ in developing nations is often to have children that support you in old age. Two Filipinos we know have supported their family since the age of 12 and 17. This sacrifice for their parents means that they are unable to save for themselves and advance themselves economically or educationally. This is a common story throughout the Philippines and a factor that continues the cycle of poverty.

Just a $1000 donation will support one Filipino for almost a third of the year. A $300 donation will support someone for about a month - or give them extra money for health care, transportation to work, family emergencies or entrepreneurial ventures.  A $100 donation converts into about 5200 php (pesos) at the rate of exchange in August 2018 and will buy a dental or medical check-up or needed clothes, shoes, or supplies. Most Filipinos have no health insurance and must pay out of pocket for hospital, medical, and dental care. Many families must forego medical care for this reason. Most have had almost no dental work well into adulthood - except to have teeth pulled - in spite of multiple needs. The average life span in the Philippines is to 68.5, almost 15 years less than the United States.

Almost 90% of the money raised will go directly to individual, hard-working, Filipinos in need with whom we have had face-to-face contact or direct knowledge of through personal connections. Donations will be spread as equally as efficient among recipients. Knowledge of recipients will be gained through in person visits and through churches and other contacts.

Primacy for donations will be given to spiritually-focused, goal oriented individuals seeking to raise their standard of living along with those around them. Specifically, donations will be used to support individuals and families in the areas of essential daily needs and services, health, education, entrepreneurial endeavors, and the like.

5% of funds goes to GoFundMe; an addition of almost 5% is taken in account transfers. Less than 5% additional will be applied to administrative expenses. At least 85% of your donation amount will directly impact hard-working, worthy individuals seeking to raise their and their families standard of living and spread prosperity and success to those around them.

Mother Teresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” Help the Philippines fulfill its destiny and become one of the most important and prosperous nations in the world!

In Spring 2019 FTP has helped out families in the Mindanao provinces with food, clothing, and medical aid. Recently, FTP provided dental services for a Filipino teen-ager in pain from impacted teeth and cavities and provided medical aid and antibiotics to children and adults with infections. We also provided food supplies to seniors exposed to the elements who live just above the level of the homeless.

FTP (For The Philippines) helped out a poor rural family in the province of Mindanao with money to complete the construction of their small house. Most rural families live in small concrete dwellings with no inside plumbing or running water, kitchens, or bathrooms. These dwellings typically have open doors, a few rooms, and electrical wiring. What we would call a kitchen is outside the back of the home - a wood burning grill on which to cook fish or meat. The bathroom (CR) is an outhouse in the backyard. This family will be able to complete the roof on their home and be protected from the heavy seasonal rains.
