For the love of Annie

Donation protected

Annie's really been a saving grace in Debra's life. Now we're helping Debra to save Annie's life.

Annie Hughes has a big job, which she takes very seriously. She doesn't get distracted when she's working. Instead, she works hard and she doesn't ask for much in return (with the exception of an occasional banana).

In her off time, however, she can be alternately lazy and rambunctious.
She loves sloppy kisses and rubs; her smile is contagious.

Annie is a 7 year-old Golden Retriever/German Shepard mix. She has been a therapy dog, sharing her love, for over 6 years and for the past several years she has been Debra Hughes’ best friend. Debra is a soft-spoken and extremely generous woman who recently lost her beloved husband, Hugh. Annie’s son Pete has followed her lead and is also a therapy dog.

“I’m very thankful for Annie. She’s really been a saving grace in my life.”
Now it's Debra's time to return the favor.

In August, Annie was diagnosed with Fibrocarcinoma. She then had two surgeries to remove a cancerous tumor that has left her with a long incision across her jaw.

Doctors are confident that they’ve removed 100 percent of the growth, with little chance of recurrence. But with the surgery, multiple office visits, medicine and chemotherapy sessions have left Debra with bills totaling over $5,000. Debra is on a very limited income and the unexpected expenses have created an extreme financial hardship.

As friends of Debra, we have launched a “Help a Therapy Dog, Annie’s Surgery,” fundraiser on Facebook and the GoFundMe website.

Annie & Debra are working hard on their many visits.

Anyone who knows Debra knows that Annie is her Queen. She is so much more than just a dog to her - as anyone with a heart for dogs and all that they are, understands. We struggle to even put into words her bravery, loyalty, wisdom, and heart. If you’ve ever met Annie, you know exactly what we’re talking about. She has protected Debra, watched over her, and fiercely loved her. For all that she has been and still is to all of us, we owe it to her to give her the best fighting chance we can.

This fundraiser seeks $5,000 to cover those expenses, future check-ups and the chemotherapy treatments Annie will require for the next several months.

Debra said Annie’s condition is now “excellent” after surgery and following the first of her scheduled chemo treatments.

Debra never imagined having to reach out and ask for help for something like this, as Annie has always been a very healthy and low maintenance dog, care-wise. This is a completely unexpected horror that has knocked all of us off our feet, so we are humbled to ask for help. If you are able to, know that Annie, Debra and we, their friends, will be forever grateful.

If you can support our GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, we would greatly appreciate it! We know money can be tight with Christmas just around the conner, but please know that even $5 helps us get closer to achieving our goal.

                                                           Will you please help?
