As many of you know, my Dad, Winston Blackmore, has been charged and convicted with polygamy, and will be sentenced May 15th, 2018. He was first charged with polygamy in 1990, which he has never denied, in fact claimed himself "guilty of living his faith" and it has taken the Canadian government almost 28 years to come to the same conclusion.
This has been very long and drawn out, and very EXPENSIVE. Any money raised will be going directly to lawyer fees.
Polygamy Definition:
Being married to multiple wives or husbands at the same time.
Section 293(1) of the Canadian Criminal Code states: Every one who practises or enters into or in any manner agrees or consents to practise or enter into any form of polygamy, or any kind of conjugal union with more than one person at the same time, whether or not it is by law recognized as a binding form of marriage, or celebrates, assists or is a party to a rite, ceremony, contract or consent that purports to sanction (such) a relationship .... is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years."
The fact that my Dad calls his partners "wives" and maintains a relationship with and supports them and his children, is what he is guilty of.
My dad has faced a gross injustice of even a basic human right; the right of whom to love. My personal opinion is that his biggest crime is that he loves too many.
For anyone who believes in freedom of love, this is your fight.
For anyone who believes in freedom of religion, faith, or spirituality, this is your fight.
For anyone who believes in basic FREEDOM and AGENCY, this is YOUR fight.
