Foothills Search and Rescue

It’s 4 a.m. The phone rings, calling Foothills Search & Rescue volunteers for immediate response. This time it’s two small children who went missing outside a small community. Recently it was someone’s grandfather suffering from dementia, who had walked away from home, confused and lost. We’ve even rescued “Brock”, an old black lab who couldn’t follow his master out of the Highwood River canyon as darkness fell.

Imagining a mother’s loss, a family’s heartbreak, or even the sense of loss at having to leave one’s dog behind in a cold, dark river canyon is what drives each of FSAR’s volunteers to spend hundreds of hours training to meet such challenges. We pay our own way and we buy our own gear because we love what we do and we care about the people we serve. And because we’ve seen the faces of the families whose loved ones have gone missing.

This isn’t some marketing yarn. These are real incidents to which we’ve responded recently south and west of Calgary, Alberta. My name is Ken. I’m one of 57 other FSAR volunteers represented here and I, too, have looked into the eyes of family members and have choked back tears seeing their pain and then their relief.

We’re committed to serving our community and your families. But we need your help. We need to replace our aging mobile command post. We have a plan, we have gone after corporate sponsors, but we have come up short. Please help us. Please donate so that we can serve to the best of our abilities. Thank you so very much
