Food For Fiji

Donation protected
I'm an Aussie living in Fiji representing a group of people wanting to solve an immediate problem in Fiji. I am the sister-in-law of a resort owner in the Yasawas and have personally visited many islands in the area, including Soso Village many times.

We've also been asked by many friends around the world, how they can help in the aftermath of tropical cyclone Winston?

You can donate directly to the Red Cross (our preferred choice of large charity).  We've been asked by many friends for a more specific project,  so here is our answer.

The Fijian villages on the smaller Fiji Islands have been hit badly by tropical cyclone Winston and currently, DON'T HAVE FOOD

Our focus is the the Yasawa group of islands. Given we've doubled my original goal for fund raising in less than 2 days, we will extend our funds to other areas in Fiji. Approximately 70% of funds will be spent in the Yasawa Islands.

Resorts in the area have given what they can and it's literally not enough to feed everybody. Some villages don't have resorts on their land and are more isolated than others, we will also take care of these villages.

Yasawas
- Soso Village - 40 homes destroyed, 90% have damage.
- Kese Village - waiting on an update.

Lau
- Vanuabalavu Island - Daliconi Village - 80% destroyed. 34 homes destroyed, 6 remaining.

The Fijian Government and Red Cross will provide assistance eventually but have an enormous job ahead of them so it could take a while.

So while we're waiting for help to arrive we're going to use our networks of contacts on the ground in Nadi Fiji to send as much non-perishable food to the island villages in the Yasawas & Lau as we can.

We have the local knowledge and contacts but we need your help. We personally know the barge companies, we know boat charter companies, we know aircraft company owners, we know the resorts in the area, we know how to purchase food and we know where the villages are in need.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
What we need is cash. $2  $10  $50  $100  $200  $500

We can arrange everything in Fiji and just need the funds to do so.

How will the funds be spent?
Our focus is on food -
Staples - rice, dhal, tinned foods (and can openers) flour, breakfast crackers, tea, sugar
Baby Formula
Other items will include -
Basic medical supplies - disinfectant, plasters, bandages, painkillers
Basic building supplies (hammers/nails etc)
Garbage Bags to keep any belongings they may have been able to salvage dry
Nappies
Candles / Matches
Mozzie coils
Toiletry items - toilet paper, sanitary items, washing powder
Water Filters

These items are being purchased through wholesalers that Mantaray Island Resort use on a regular basis. You can be assured we are getting the best possible value for money.

How we intend to get the funds to those in need?
We have arranged a boat and a barge (which have kindly been donated) to deliver the goods to the islands which was 2-3hours north of Nadi.

The first small package of relief food has already been sent, the next larger load will be leaving Friday 26th with more to follow next week.

Please donate NOW, don't delay.

We will continue to provide relief food and supplies as long as funds continue to be donated. In the event the Fiji Red Cross arrive in the area, any remaining funds will be donated directly to them.

You can be assured 100% of funds raised (after the small gofundme fee) will go directly to those in need.

Fiji is now our home and it feels like a wrecking ball has literally smashed through the front door. In true Fiji spirit, we are not going to let it beat us, together with the Fijians we are #strongerthanwinston

Myself and other Aussie expats behind this gofundme project have been lucky and all have houses that are standing and food to eat. Please help us to help others who have been less fortunate.

Vinaka for your support, together we can make a difference.

ps. Tanawha QLD - I live in Fiji, I was on holidays visiting family in Australia when the cyclone hit. My husband was on the ground in Nadi. We don't have power or services so I'm helping from Qld with a solid internet connection, power, and phone. As soon as we have power back I will be returning to Fiji, in the meantime, I can be more productive in Australia providing communication services for anybody who needs it.

If you are connected to a large corporation, association or group and are wanting to offer substantial support please contact me via this project.
