Food for Thought Cafe and Info shop

At the intersection of Church and Trade, there is a revolution coming.  A revolution in thought, principle and economics, Food For Thought is a #PayWhatYouCan (#PWYC) Cafe and Infoshop based on the business models pioneered by the One World Everyone Eats Foundation, Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchens, Panera Cares, 60 other Pay-What-You-Can Community Cafes operating in America and over 50 others currently in the planning stages in six countries.

With food insecurity affecting 800 million people globally, including 17 million households in every county in America,  experts in many fields have called upon organizations to find new ways to address this serious and sometimes invisible issue. Food For Thought Cafe and Infoshop in Salem, Oregon, seeks to join the response to this call by maintaining a safe, all-inclusive space where people are nourished in body, mind and soul; a space where people come together to eat in dignity while forming strong bonds that foster interconnection, compassion and community resilience.

This is our lifelong dream and our prayer for a better world, as expressed through an economic model that encourages the exchange of currency far beyond mere cash to take into account our vast collective stores of human capital. We envision this space as a vibrant community hub where people can come and sit down for a hearty, healthy meal, browse our library of deeply thought provoking books and movies, strike up a conversation with neighbors and friends, join us for movie night and/or open mic and engage in community roundtable discussions where we will invite community members and leaders to sit down at the table to discuss issues and solutions that affect us all. Sounds like a dream, right?

It is a dream we are on the cusp of realizing and we have nearly everything we need to open the doors of this visionary Cafe and Community center by the end of October, 2017.

Everything except YOU.

We need YOU.

YOUR Heart, YOUR Spirit and YOUR dedication of precious resources is what it will take to launch this visionary, self-sustaining community space that nurtures body, mind and soul, while transforming the way people think about food assistance and charity. By feeding the needy and the non-needy side by side and giving low-income people the chance to eat a nutritious sit-down meal somewhere other than a soup kitchen, we are here to help each other to remember that we aren’t strangers, or forgotten citizens…we are neighbors.
