Fluttering Families Needs a Home!

$8,585 of $400,000 goal

In 2011, Fluttering Families  was created to provide support, advocacy, events, and activities for families of children with special needs. Our focus is to provide opportunities for their entire family to feel included, respected, and valued in their community in spite of their unique needs and challenges. And we have done so solely through donations, sponsorship, and kindness.

You can learn more about us, and our mission, by watching this recent interview with our founder, Laura Sefcik.

For many special families, our events are the only way they can participate in childhood rites of passage, like visiting Santa, collecting eggs at an Easter egg hunt, or dressing up and dancing at a Sweetheart Dance. We offer a safe, relaxed, and nonjudgmental environment where everyone can be themselves

But we want to do more.

Since the beginning, we have been renting space in the community for each event.  And now, we need to have a place of our own.  A place where special families can gather together on a more routine basis. A place that allows for more support and educational opportunities for parents. A safe, nurturing place that fosters our growth and metamorphosis from what we thought our family would be, to what our family is

Please join our mission to find a home for Fluttering Families  by making a tax-deductible* donation. Any additional donations above and beyond our goal will be used for building maintenance. If you prefer to make a donation by check, please make payable to Fluttering Families, note "Building Fund" in memo, and send to PO Box 133, Powell, OH 43065.

Another great way to support our efforts without contributing money: tell Ellen DeGeneres about us! We have made our own submission, but would love one from each of you! With any luck, we can get her attention and garner support.

Visit http://www.ellentv.com/be-on-the-show/1150/ and complete the fields in your own words about why we are worthy of her attention and why we need our own place!

Only two days remain in 2016! Are you looking for a charitable cause to support to reduce your income tax? Look no further!

Your one-time donation will make a difference over and over (and over and over and over!) again in the lives of families of children with special needs.

On our wish list in our new building:
the formation of a show choir, where children with special needs and their typically-developing peers can come together to express themselves through music and movement.

We can't wait for you to be a part of it! Be sure to check out our giving categories: caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly.

Last Sunday, we welcomed another 30 special families for private visits with Santa! It was an awesome day, filled with many older children and adults that would have never had the opportunity to see Santa in a traditional setting based on their age and needs.

One family included a daughter who communicates primarily through sign language. We were blessed with Santa knowing some ASL and connecting with her--causing her and her family to experience great joy!

But they weren't the only ones.

During her visit, she showed Santa her hearing aids. In return, Santa showed her his! At that moment, she giddily signed, "We are the same."

That moment overwhelmed me for hours. And now days. THAT is why we do what we do. We strive to provide children with special needs the opportunity to feel connected to others, included in their community, and to experience a sense of sameness with those around them. At that very moment, that little girl found someone to which she could relate and share a connection.

We can't wait to keep making a difference in the lives of families with special kids. We hope you will, too!!

Today, we welcomed 81 children, with more than half having special needs, to meet Santa & Mrs. Claus in a safe, comfortable, and judgment-free environment.

For many, this was the first time their child has had the opportunity to meet Santa...and for even more, it was their child's first time to independently express their Christmas wish!

Please help us continue to do our great work of serving special families, and giving them everything that they deserve!
