DriveToronto has just launched a Flow Mates Drive for the 2nd year in a row to help women living on the street and in shelters when they have their period. A box of tampons or pads cost a little under $10 and sometimes you need two boxes. A reusable cup is around $25.
As a young professional adding these costs to my monthly bill can sometimes be hard to reach. Imagine what it’s like for someone who has little to no income at all? Where you have to choose between your next meal and buying supplies for your period.
Think about how donating a few of these items could help empower your sisters. Think about if this was you. Or your best friend. Think about all those sisters who tap you on the shoulder and say 'Hey - I'm on my period. Do you have an extra thing?" and how quick you are to dig into your bag and help them out. The only difference is, a homeless sister didn't forget to pack one; she just doesn't have the funds to buy ANY.
Last fall we collected over 13,038 pads, tampons and liners an 1000+ soap, shampoo, toothpaste, wet wipes, lotions, lip balms, toothbrushes, Q-tips, baby diapers, adult depends and deodorant.
We understand that sometimes life gets in the way and you are not able to make it down to our drop off locations. So we have made it easier for you. Donate any amount that you can and we will purchased pads and tampons on your behalf.
