FlintBeat.com is a hyper-local digital news publication covering Flint, Mich. being spearheaded by veteran reporter Jiquanda Johnson.

Your Community, Your Voice, Your News

FlintBeat.com 's publisher, Jiquanda Johnson has more more than 16 years of experience in journalism including print, television and digital media.  She has worked for MLive Media Group/The Flint Journal, The Detroit News, NBC25 and Fox.

"I stepped out on journalistic faith to give the Flint community the news and coverage they deserve." - Jiquanda Johnson, Publisher, FlintBeat.com

We have a community journalism approach where we cover all things Flint. The website, FlintBeat.com , features  news from city hall, neighborhoods, local news and will serve as a resource for Flint water crisis information.

We are raising money to cover operating costs including establishing a freelance budget for writers and photographers, developing a phone application for news on the go, establishing internships and co-op programs for local college and high school students who have a passion or interest in journalism.

We figure, if we take care of the community, the community will take care of us.

Don't just donate. If you have a news tip please send them to us an email at team@flintbeat.com.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jiquanda Johnson

So far, two freelancers have joined the team and one staff writer. We are working on an app for news on the go, creating a Freedom of Information Act fund, pages for news broken down by Flint's nine wards, applying for memberships to Lion Publishers and the Michigan Press Association. I will also be attending a collaborative journalism summit in New Jersey next month. There's still a ton of work to do. Thank you for all of your support. We will keep up to date on our progress.

I am a citizen of Flint. Michigan now and have been since October of 2011!! I was a victim of Hurricane Ike where I lost everything I owned and had to sleep in an old 1974 Ford F-100 with a Straight 6~My baby that is in Galveston, Texas and wish she was up here. I understand both natural disaster and man=made disaster and there is no difference!! As always the people end up helping each other!!! I am disabled and luickly was not killed in the home invasion. I was stabbed twice in my face and beaten unconcious to start to wake up and hear 2 women screaming at the man that had beat me to finish me off!! I was waiting for the end but little did I know my neighbor's heard and saw something wrong and all I know as I lay there waiting for the end the people fled!! Blance her daughter Theresa and Theresa's boyfriend are all gang affiliated!!! I ran in to the new chief of Police and received a call yesterday that a detective would be getting a hold of me. So I will sit and wait to see if this happen's!! As The Chief told me my case can be reopened since it was not solved!! I have 911 tape clearing stating I did not know Blanche!! This was December 18, 2013 one week before Christmas!! The first Officer retired in December and the next officer I never meet in person only through email did we correspond!! I am willing to share with anyone that care's to help me as I am just waiting for the day that someone show's up at my door to finish the job that they didn't!!
