FLIGHT TO SEE SURGEON

For anyone who doesn't know, I have lived my life fighting hard against my many medical challenges. I was born with a condition called spina bifida* which has caused plenty of challenges for me. At birth the doctors realized I needed surgery to have a colostomy made. After beginning the operation my doctor soon found no large intestine to work with and instead was forced to create an ileostomy** which I have lived with my whole life. For those of you who aren't familiar with that, it means I wear a bag on my abdomen that bodily waste collections into. Now this was a good fix for that time. But after 20 years it is time to consider trying something that could help improve my quality of life and health. With this bag I have skin breakdown and irritation all too often. That alone puts me at major risk for infection. Of course my insurance is no help. They always fight me over the amount of supplies I need monthly and try to not allow me what I need. I've had many hospital trips due to all the issues I have with my ileostomy. The last few years I have worked with my doctors trying to find an alternative procedure that would eliminate the need to wear a bag. Over a year and a half ago we found the option of doing the Kock Pouch Procedure (KPouch)** which would give me continence and eliminate the need of the bag. After searching for months we were finally able to find a doctor who specializes in this procedure. Doctor Meagan Costedio*** at the Cleveland Clinic has agreed to see me to discuss this operation. I fought with insurance for a whole year and now I finally have an appointment scheduled for November 10th. Can you believe it's less than a month away? Now the only issue standing in my way is travel expenses. Currently it is not in my budget to be able to pay to fly to Cleveland Ohio. That's where you come in.
