Surgery for Conjoined Twins

At the end of October, twin boys were born to a very young couple from a rural farming village in Guizhou, China.   In this region, it is not uncommon for families to live on just a few dollars a day.  The parents ( both just 20 years old) had actually become migrant workers to try and earn a wage, and they found themselves very far from home when the young mom went into labor.  Soon after the delivery, the couple learned that their boys had been born conjoined, connected together in their pelvic region. The boys share one liver and one pelvic bone structure, but thankfully have four kidneys and two bladders.

This courageous young couple were discharged from the maternity hospital when they didn't have enough money to pay, and they made their way up to Shanghai because they had heard that a hospital there had successfully separated conjoined twins in the past.  Surgeons at this hospital believe an operation IS possible, but the cost of the surgery is far beyond what the family could ever raise.  In order for the surgery to occur, Love Without Boundaries Foundation , a top-rated children's charity in the US,  is raising funds for these beautiful little boys.  The parents have begged and borrowed from everyone they know back home, but they have only been able to raise a few thousand dollars on their own, since their families live in such poverty themselves.   The total cost of the operation in Shanghai will be 400,000 rmb = or about $60,000.  To date, LWB has raised $25,000 but needs $30,000 more in order to schedule the boys' surgery.

Will you join with us to stand beside this beautiful family?  In China, the abandonment of babies born with medical needs remains high, and we want so badly to support this brave couple who are fully committed to getting their little boys the medical help they deserve. Please join with us to make their surgery possible!  If the funds are in place by mid-February, the operation could take place right after Chinese New Year.

Here is a recent blog about the babies:

Thank you so much for helping them!  When we come together in love - lives can be changed forever.

Additional information about this fundraising campaign:

1) This fundraiser is being led by Amy Eldridge, the CEO of Love Without Boundaries Foundation.  LWB's website is at www.lovewithoutboundaries.com  LWB holds Charity Navigator's highest 4-star rating.

2)  LWB is based in Oklahoma City, OK - and provides international aid to orphaned and impoverished children in China.  To date, over 2000 children have received surgery through LWB's efforts.

3)  The parents of the conjoined twins contacted LWB after they traveled to Shanghai to search for help for their babies.  LWB has a hospital manager at the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, who works with both orphaned children and impoverished families to help arrange medical care.  LWB originally offered to provide 1/4 of the funds the family needed for surgery to take place (approximately $15,000).  However, when the young parents were unable to raise the remaining funds by borrowing from friends and family and reaching out to other charities, LWB agreed to attempt to raise the full amount of the surgery cost (approximately $60,000 or 400,000 rmb).

4)  All funds raised on Go Fund Me will be wired to LWB's account at Fudan University in Shanghai to directly cover the medical expenses of the twins' surgery.  LWB has both a contract and medical account with Fudan due to the number of surgeries we arrange at this top-rated children's hospital in China.  For every child we heal at Fudan, we are given an updated medical bill three times per week.  The hospital gives LWB an estimated surgery expense, which we wire to our account.  In the event the twins would not need the full $60,000 - any remaining funds would be used to heal additional orphaned or impoverished children, although we anticipate that the twins will most likely need additional medical follow-up in the future.

5)  The funds raised will go directly from Love Without Boundaries, a registered 501c3 charity in the US to the Children's Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai, where they will be credited for the twins' surgery and medical costs.
