Help keep music shop/school alive!

On any given day when you walk into Mc Pharlins your ears are greeted by the sounds of teachers and students playing violin, guitar , cello and banjo or singing. For the past 18 years so many people of all ages have been coming here to this independently owned music shop and school to learn. When the weather is nice you will find us outside playing for passersby or even teaching.

Music is important in people’s lives.

When someone learns to express themselves through the playing of an instrument or through their own voice, it changes them from the inside out. It’s personal. Playing music teaches patience, perseverance and self-discipline. It improves cognitive brain function, and all sorts of other scientifically measurable things.
These are wonderful benefits, but it’s the things that can’t be measured that are most important. Music is the wordless expression of all human emotion. Joy and happiness, sadness or sorrow, victory and defeat. There’s a reason they call music the universal language. Everyone understands and feels the power of music , it defies any barrier: social, ethnic, geographic or economic.
McPharlin’s is a gathering place and an encouraging, nurturing community for anyone who wants to learn or deepen their understanding of music. Please help us continue to share the music that we love, by giving what you can and / or sharing with as many people as possible.

Why does McPharlin Music Shop need your help?

After more than 15 years of student and community service, the shop’s founder, Bob McPharlin, was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer. His passing left his wife and shop co-owner, Shelley McPharlin, to suddenly run the shop on her own with no experience in Bob’s areas of expertise. She had to learn every aspect of the business in a crash course while grieving the loss of her husband and business partner. To make matters worse, there was no insurance.
Shelley McPharlin has bravely pushed onward and has made great strides in redefining the shop’s mission, reworking the shop’s instrument rental program, recruiting new teachers, strengthening relationships with schools and local businesses, and learning how to manage all day-to-day operations on her own. As with most businesses, the finances take some time to catch up with the investment of hard work. The success of McPharlin Music Shop will truly be a success of the entire community, but that success will not come to pass without the care and helping hands of folks like you.

How will the money be used?

We will purchase more rental instruments  as well as retail inventory which will result in a reliable and steady flow of income.

We will do community outreach performances, and educational events to increase awareness of our school to attract more students.

We will  hire a manager to handle daily operations so that the focus can be on growing  and sustaining the  ( There is someone ready to take this job)

We will clear up some of the original debt  that was left after Bob passed away that has put us in a disadvantaged purchasing position.

We will   continue and expand our scholarship program for students in need. ( no one should be denied an instrument or lessons because of money)

Thank you for your help and we hope you'll share our story.
