The Animal Orphanage Needs Your Help

I’m sure you’ve heard the expresion “when it rains it pours”. Well, The Animal Orphanage has certainly experienced not only the rain but a major flood of medical expenses!

In addition to our typical amount of stray dogs and cats, the Orphanage has admitted five dogs and a young cat who have had to have extensive medical procedures since early November.

Three of the five dogs were brought in by the police department after being confiscated from meth labs. All needed extensive medical care including dental, biopsies and tumor removal. One of the dogs had a tooth abcess that connected to an open abcess in his face. It was so large that it had to be treated surgically, will take weeks to heal, and likely would have resulted in death had it not been treated. All three of the dogs had tumors that needed to be cared for and thankfully none of them were cancerous and all are successfully healing.

You may have heard about JOC, the Christmas miracle cat. He was found frozen in hay on the ground next to a manger scene. The gentleman who rescued him thought he was dead. As he pryed him out of the ground with a shovel and was placing him in a trash receptacle he heard a faint meow! Fortunately, he brought the young cat to the Orphanage and the worker took him immediately to Timberland Animal Hospital to be treated. Thanks to Dr. Miller and the other employees at Timberland, he was given a second chance at life. JOC (named for a character in the movie Frozen) was revived twice after his heart stopped and his body temp was so low that it wouldn’t register on the thermometer. Poor JOC was covered in fleas which caused several problems due to blood loss from the bites. He had open wounds on his legs and body, the tips of both ears had to be removed because of frostbite and he was severely emaciated. This is just to name a few of the hurdles for this young cat. Dr. Miller has taken JOC under her wing and taken him home at night and during the holidays in an incubator so she could monitor his progress. He was so close to death, even though he still has a long road, thanks to the efforts of everyone involved, he is doing well in his recovery!

With the care of Dr. Miller and the staff at Timberland, all of these animals are thriving. However, none of these happy endings come without a price tag. Even with the discounted fees that we receive from Timberland, we are looking at projected costs upwards of five thousand dollars.

We are a no kill shelter and our mission is to give all the animals in our care the best medical treatment and personal attention needed. “The Jonni Fund” is used for animals who need “special” medical care. Unfortunately, the fund doesn’t have that amount of money in it. We have never used “crowdfunding” before but feel that this situation calls for it. If you can donate $5 or $50 it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount will help.  Any funds raised,  above what is needed for the current high needs cases will remain in "The Jonni Fund" for future use.

Thank you. We will be happy to supply you with a receipt for your donation. We are a 501c3 organization. Please note that any and all monies received will go ONLY to the medical expenses of the animals in our care. That is the only purpose of “The Jonni Fund”. As a side note, this is the start of our Twenty-Sixth year of rescuing stray and abandoned animals, and in all these years, this is the first time we have asked for help with medical bills!
