I came from India to the US with nothing in my pocket and only the American dream in my mind.
I became a highly successful IT consultant. However the memory of past struggles haunted me as I gained new perspective into the challenges of my industry. There were so many gaps and disconnects in the way companies were operating in the IT space; one of the biggest was the recruitment process. I could see the way they were operating, gaining employees and enhancing employee performance wasn’t right. They were not getting the best experienced people and the people were not put in the best roles or receiving the training and skill-building they needed…
I saw many skilled people losing jobs.
This problem opened the door for me to start exploring a solution. I wanted long term unemployed people to take advantage of this revolutionary solution first. This thought gave birth to First Candidate and also inspired me to name it after them (long term unemployed people). I felt my purpose growing into something bigger.
I tried to blend my new ambitious project while working on a job but I couldn’t do it anymore. I could no longer sit idle and be a part of the problem when the solution was written on my heart and occupying my mind. I quit my job and decided it was time to begin pursuing my purpose. It was risky but I was about to take a leap of faith that very few would understand.
So, I began First Candidate. A passion that had been brewing and growing inside me for over 10 years. I knew that unemployment was a serious issue and that it could not be solved by merely finding jobs for those who don’t have them; it would require an overhaul to the entire approach. Only then would there be an opportunity to end unemployment for good. This solution would also change the way employers would find qualified candidates, creating an overall win-win.
I promised myself that I would launch the project in 2016 on July 4th. I was committed to make this happen. I decided to find any way possible… I broke my savings, I mortgaged my property, and even too a loan against my car -- and that was just the beginning. I spoke to everyone I knew and many whom I didn’t, anyone who would listen. I was able to gather and raise enough funds to get a start on my dream. I kept my promise to myself and to everyone who shared my passion, and I began First Candidate in July of 2016 with the official launch on July 4th.
First Candidate exists as a cutting-edge, multi-platform website that provides three very different tools to end unemployment:
FirstWORK: Half Job Portal - Half Social Platform
Connecting employers with the people who can drive their businesses forward is what First Work is all about. The social element makes it easy for candidates to showcase their skills and long-term objectives.
FirstCROWDFUND: Helps startups turn their brilliant idea into a hiring, thriving business.
It is the work creating machine that turns promising startups into stable businesses and employers.
FirstINK: Sharing stories as the catalyst for change.
It is a movement to unite journalists, academics, and industry leaders as catalyst for change. It is a contemporary twist on the tradition tabloid campaign where writers expose unemployment data with the writers who can do them justice.
My struggle became worse when I lost my home as a result of a wrongful foreclosure. This effected both my personal life as well as the project.
I do whatever it takes to continue to fight for my passion, knowing the cause I stand for is bigger than my own problems. I know revolutionizing the way we approach unemployment will help so many deserving people in the process. I have spent every dollar I have breathing life into this passion so people will no longer struggle with outdated systems and hopeless solutions.
We have a goal of 500,000 us dollars. This is the amount we need in order to take this whole project to the next step.
We need a strong technical team, resources, nationwide aggressive marketing campaign, we need every single american to know we exist and we have a solution for them.
We also need to do some changes to improve our services in our platform, changes that have proven to be necessary during our beta test.
This is a game changing project, when we succeed and we will, we will change the lives of millions of people, including yours.
