First Orthodox Church in Cancún, Mexico

We are a group of Orthodox believers who organize the first Orthodox church in the city of Cancun, Mexico.

The need for this church is really huge. According to preliminary estimates, thousands of Orthodox believers are either permanently living or temporarily staying as tourists in Cancún. Moreover, there has never been an Orthodox church here.

But we have neither sponsors nor funds.

Despite the shortage of funds, the first Orthodox liturgy was held on May 1, 2019 with the blessing of Bishop Matthew Surozhsky. 

Since we do not have our own premises, the Catholic Church of Cancun provided us with a chapel for only 2 hours to hold this Liturgy.

Since there are no Orthodox priests in Cancun, we were forced to invite a priest from another city.

The cost of a flight ticket for him, transportation to the church and other expenses required for the liturgy and for the activities of the priest were paid by one woman who is squeezed for funds and can not help any more.

There was also baptizing of two children, not in the church but in one of the private houses, again due to the fact that we do not have our own church.

Coming to Cancun the priest stays in the house of one churchgoers because of the lack of funds to pay for his hotel.

Now funds are required for:

1. to pay a flight  ticket to the priest, each arrival in Cancun is 200€. We expect at least 2-3 arrivals to start with.

2. the cost of transfer from the airport to the place where the father stays - 80 € two ways,
taxi to the church -40 € round trip

3. printing of promotional materials to inform the Orthodox believers about the place and time of the liturgy 50 €

4 domain purchase and hosting for a website -60 €

4 The cost of registration of documents of the Orthodox community 150 + €
